Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, ecological issues has become major concern for people and it creats an intense debate among individuals. some believe that loss of biodiversity is the critical problem and others claim that there are many others environmental concerns which would badly affect our planet. Both have merits. Taking both sides of the argument, I believe that ecological issues such as pollution, traffic congestion, global warming and deforestation are more important than biodiversity loss.
On the one hand, everything on the earth has its own value. Fauna and flora are also play important role in many aspects of life. Plants are the main source of oxygen, without this gas people are unable to live. Furthermore, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere which consequently result in the reduction of pollution. The extinction of particular species of plants and animals can distrupt the entire food chain. For instance, if bees become extinct pollination of crops will stop, which will directly affect food production for humans.
Onthe other hand, I believe that problems like pollution, global warming and deforestation are even more pressing. Climate change, caused by crabon emmisions, leading to rising sea levels, extreme weather nad droughts. For instance, in Pakistan, we are facing floods and smog due to pollution and climate change.
In conclusion, although the species extniction of plants and animals cannot be ignored, these problems should addressed by governments, I believe that negative consequences of other environmental issues such as pollution and climate change are more important becuase they not only affect people but all life on earth, including human beings. Governments should prioritize these issues .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the importance of biodiversity loss versus broader environmental issues like pollution and climate change—and clearly states a personal position throughout. Main ideas are presented, such as the ecological role of flora and fauna and the pressing nature of global warming. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the discussion on how plants absorb carbon dioxide or the food chain disruption caused by bees is somewhat generalized and under-developed, preventing the essay from reaching a higher level. To improve further, the writer should extend and support all main arguments with deeper explanations and more comprehensive examples rather than relying on brief mentions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear structure that divides the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the contrasting views and the writer's opinion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'Onthe other hand' and minor issues with referencing and cohesive ties between sentences. Logical progression is evident overall, but to achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing is smoother and completely free of mechanical phrasing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'biodiversity', 'extinction', 'ecosystem', and 'pollination'. There are, however, several lexical inaccuracies, including spelling errors ('creats' instead of 'creates', 'distrupt', 'extniction', 'becuase'), word-choice slips ('others environmental concerns'), and typographical lapses ('Onthe other hand', 'nad'). These errors do not impede communication, which reflects the characteristics of this band, but they prevent the writing from achieving greater precision. To reach the next level, the writer must expand the use of less common lexical items and eliminate spelling and word-form errors through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('ecological issues has become', 'Fauna and flora are also play'), missing articles, and awkward prepositional patterns or verb forms ('these problems should addressed'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To move up to a higher band, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences by exercising better control over complex grammatical structures, passive voice constructions, and subject-verb agreement.
