Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that the biggest main issue of enviornment is loss of some species of plants and animals but some people believe that there are more issue that play important role in environment. In the forthcoming paragraph I will explain you which play a vital role in environmental issue.

Firstly, loss of particular species of plants and animals is the major issue of environmental problem. In my opinion the biggest loss in environment is cutting plants we are the main reason for having such type of problems in environment because we are cutting plants day by day to built industries on that place and we do not know that we are lossing such particular problems. If we talk about the animals species some of them are already vanished and its not a big problem in environmental.

On the other hand, most people say that there are some other major issue of environment problem and I agree with it and the reason is that we do not focus on making dams for saving water when the heavy rain fall began most of the country sunk in the water and we did not know how to over come it and it is a major environmental problem. Millions of people face that fluid problems and they have not that much resources to live in such circumstances. There are more environmental problems such ass pollution, air pollution etc.

In conclusion, both context play a major role and at the end I will say that it is our responsiblity to clean our environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer manages to express a position and touch upon both views regarding environmental problems, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on biodiversity loss and deforestation lacks sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. Furthermore, the argument shifts abruptly and fails to maintain a clear line of reasoning throughout. The introduction states that the writer will explain which issue plays a vital role, but the body paragraphs simply list points without adequate explanation or coherent support. To move to a higher band, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully discussed with extended, well-supported arguments and a clear, consistent position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation present in the response, but it lacks clear overall progression. The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which shows an attempt to structure the writing. However, cohesive devices are used inadequately and repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on basic linkers like 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult at times to follow the logical connection between ideas, as seen in the transition between the discussion of animal species and the introduction of water management. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to improve the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices without mechanical repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical resource displayed is limited, though minimally adequate for conveying basic meaning. The writer attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'biodiversity' or relevant environmental terms, but encounters noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling. For example, terms like 'enviornment' are misspelled, and phrases such as 'biggest main issue' or 'fluid problems' instead of 'flooding' demonstrate a restricted control over word formation and collocation. These frequent lexical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede precise communication. To progress, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary range, learning correct word forms and collocations, and paying closer attention to spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and occasional faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, tense consistency, and prepositional patterns, such as 'most of the country sunk in the water' and 'we are lossing such particular problems'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. To improve, the writer needs to increase the variety of sentence structures used and practice mastering basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb forms, clause structures, and punctuation.
