Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is argued that loss of plants and different species of animals are one of the main environmental problems. Some people believe that these are not the main problems but some other like increase in technology and using fossil fuels and creating pollution are the main reason. In my opinion the technology has led to increase in the environmental issues

However by removing of trees for human use like burning it for different puposes can led to decrease in the population of different tree species. By cutting trees the nest of the different birds species are destroyed which led to the extinction. Trees are helpful in stopping the flood so by cutting them results could be drastic. Global warming one of most important topic of today's world but if Trees are planted the risk of this can be reduced. Trees also have other benfits like it helps to lower the temperature of certain area and it also provide shades. Take an example of recent flood in nepal and china which was due to the less trees on mountaineous terrains as trees help to slower down its speed.

Technology is increasing day by day and has drastic impact on the environment. As to make new road we have to cut down trees and clear forest areas destroying . To make new colonies we also destroy trees. So by doing all these stuff to fulfill human needs we are destroying our environment. Increase in draughts has increased in recents years due to less rain. Also increase in global warming effet and increase in average temperature of earth has increase by 2 to 3 degrees in recent years.

In conclusion the cutting trees have drastic effect on nature and also technology is also creating different impacts on the environment

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While you mention both the loss of species and other factors like technology and fossil fuels, your position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay. The discussion tends to shift focus predominantly onto deforestation rather than a balanced exploration of species loss versus other environmental concerns. Your ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, often relying on repetitive points about cutting down trees without extending the arguments with fully elaborated examples. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure all parts of the prompt are given equal weight, with fully extended and well-supported ideas that clearly outline your overall position from the introduction to the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in your essay, such as dividing your thoughts into separate paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression from beginning to end. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, making the transitions between sentences feel mechanical. For instance, starting consecutive paragraphs with 'However' and 'Technology is increasing' lacks smooth logical links between ideas. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as using pronouns without precise antecedents. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one to guide the reader seamlessly through your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'burning it' instead of 'burning them' or referring to 'different tree species' where simpler phrasing would suffice. You make several attempts at using less common vocabulary, but issues with word form and collocation occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, for example in phrases like 'increase in global warming effet'. To achieve a higher score, you should work on expanding your vocabulary range, paying closer attention to exact word forms, and using natural collocations appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting complex ones. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies involving subject-verb agreement, pluralisation, and articles, such as 'loss of plants and different species of animals are one' instead of 'is one', and 'less trees on mountaineous terrains' instead of 'fewer trees'. Punctuation errors also occur, which can cause difficulty for the reader in parsing your meaning. To improve this area, you should focus on increasing your control over basic grammatical structures, ensuring proper agreement, and reducing the frequency of errors in complex sentence formations.
