Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, environmental problems are becoming concerning for everyone. Several individual believe that the extinction of specific species of plants and animals is the biggest problem, While, others argue that there are other more crucial environmental problems. Both the views are discussed further in essay and i will give my opinion in the conclusion.
On the one hand, the major reason is that loss of particular species is a pressing issue because it will disrupt the food chain. To unfold it, every species on earth depends upon each other for food, one species is prey for other species. For example, human beings dependent on plants for food while, plants use carbon dioxide released by humans to grow. Therefore, extinction of any one of these will bring other species to their extinction as well.
On the other hand, i contend that there are several more important environmental problems than the loss of specific species. The first and foremost one is global warming also known as climate change. To elaborate, the temprature of earth increasing rapidly which is leading to several problems like drought. Apart from that, the ozone layer which protects human beings from ultra-violet rays of sunlight is weakening due to this. For instance, in antarctica, the ozone layer is very weak to stop ultra-violet rays, so people without safety gear is not allowed their because these rays can burn skin. Secondly, increasing pollution is another threat for environment. Humans are unintentionally serving as main factor to spread not only air pollution but also noise and water pollution. Because of air pollution, breathing is becoming very difficult and inhabitants suffering from breath related disease. In addition, water pollution cause a lot of health problems. If people are drinking dirty water, it will cause stomach ache and even serious disease.
In conclusion, despite the loss of particular species of plants and animals is a serious environmental problem, in my opinion, air pollution and global warming are the more concerning issues of environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, satisfying the requirements for a solid performance at this level. You discuss the viewpoint regarding species extinction and present your own contrasting opinion on wider environmental issues. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the body paragraph discussing global warming and pollution is extended with examples such as Antarctica and health impacts, the first body paragraph focusing on the food chain tends to over-generalize and remains slightly under-developed, with the example regarding human-plant interaction lacking precise depth. Additionally, 9 words copied directly from the prompt were noted. To reach the next band, you should ensure that all main ideas receive an equal level of detailed extension and fully articulated support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout. You make use of standard cohesive devices to structure your arguments, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is sometimes slightly faulty, as seen in the phrasing 'Both the views are discussed further in essay'. To move to a higher band, you need to employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices organically, ensuring that referencing and transitions between sentences are smoother and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempt some less common lexical items, such as 'extinction', 'disrupt', and 'inhabitants'. Communication is not impeded by your word choices, but there are noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and collocation. For example, you write 'Several individual' instead of 'Several individuals', 'temprature' instead of 'temperature', and 'breath related disease' instead of 'breathing-related diseases'. To achieve a higher band score, you need to use a wider range of sophisticated vocabulary with greater precision, and eliminate basic spelling and word-form inaccuracies through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over punctuation and grammar. You successfully use structures such as 'despite the loss of particular species of plants and animals is a serious environmental problem...' and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Examples include 'environmental problems are becoming concerning' (tense/adjective usage), 'i contend' (lowercase 'i'), 'people without safety gear is not allowed their' (subject-verb agreement and spelling of 'there'), and 'cause a lot of health problems' (pluralization). These errors reflect a limitation in grammatical accuracy that places your writing at this band level. To improve, you must monitor basic agreements and article usage more closely.
