Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt partially, discussing both the loss of species and other environmental issues while presenting a basic opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes unclear. For instance, the argument that 'plants are most important for humans health like breathing naturally helps to improve immunity' touches on a relevant point but lacks sufficient extension and clarity. The position is discernible in the introduction and conclusion, but the reasoning throughout the body paragraphs is frequently underdeveloped and repetitive. To reach the next level, the writer needs to present fully developed main ideas with well-supported arguments rather than vague assertions, ensuring all parts of the prompt are explored in depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organisation, with a clear attempt at a four-paragraph structure including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is often hindered by mechanical or inaccurate cohesive devices. Words like 'consequently' and transition phrases are used repetitively or inappropriately to link ideas that lack logical connection, such as the transition into the discussion on recycling. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, leading to sentences that feel disjointed. To improve, the writer must ensure that each sentence logically follows from the previous one and that cohesive devices are used naturally to build a coherent argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'biodegradation' and 'sustainable energy', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and form, such as 'unwanted sustainable engrey' and 'environmental benefical'. There are also several spelling errors throughout the text, including 'focuable', 'occured', and 'whether' instead of weather. These lexical errors and limitations cause some difficulty and strain for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range, improve spelling accuracy, and pay closer attention to natural word collocations and appropriate word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors occur across the response, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people needs accept', 'losses animals are occurs'), article usage, and prepositions. For example, the sentence 'Although people needs accept all facts which cost environmental problems' contains multiple grammatical inaccuracies. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty and confusion for the reader. To progress to the next level, the writer must work on increasing sentence structure variety, reducing basic grammatical slips, and improving control over verb forms and plurals.
