Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people say most importent environmental problem of current peroid is loss of specific species of plants and animals while other argue that there are even more significant problems reagarding the enviorment. The extinction of spicies and animals is very important iusse to resovle but i think there are more inportant issues that we should work together to slove such as climate change and pollution.

Extinction of differnt kind of species is important probem for us humans to solve. This is because most of extinction is caused by expansion of human civilization. By expansion we disturb the natural habitat of animals and plants as a result they have less resources to survive. For example, White tingers in northern mountains of Pakistan are on brink of extinction due to increase in tourism and expansion of human sattlements. Although this is bad for environment there still more pressing issue present in current times.

One of these issues is climate change and pollutions. People are encourged to move towards more ecological friendly alternatives while there is little to no regulations on big compaines and industries which are the reason behin majority of pollution. This polution cause irreverseable damage to the ecological symtem of our planet form water sources, food and even atmostpahre. This causes climate change and contamination of essentail resources. For example, scienitists estimate if we do not reverse climate change by 2040, all the oceans of the earth rise by seven inches due to ice melting in the artic regions of earth due to this most of the coastal cities will be flooded. Hence, i belive biggest environmental issue of humanity is polution and climate change.

In conclusion, although the extinction of plants and animals is a serious environmental problem caused largely by human activities, I believe that climate change and pollution are more pressing issues. Therefore, governments, industries and individuals should work together to reduce pollution and address climate change before these problems cause further irreversible damage to the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the loss of specific species versus other pressing environmental problems—and presents a clear position throughout, culminating in a definitive conclusion in the final paragraph. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the mention of White tingers in the northern mountains of Pakistan and projected ocean level rises. However, there is a minor tendency to over-generalise in certain supporting arguments, which keeps the response within the current band level. Overall, the prompt requirements are well met with a clear and consistent stance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the discussion of species loss, then to climate change and pollution, and finally to a well-structured conclusion. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to connect ideas, such as 'Although this is bad for environment', 'One of these issues', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall arrangement remains coherent and easy to follow, representing solid paragraph-level management.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common items with varying degrees of success, such as 'ecological symtem', 'irreverseable damage', and 'expansion of human civilization'. However, there are numerous noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'importent', 'peroid', 'reagarding', 'enviorment', 'spicies', 'iusse', 'slove', 'differnt', 'probem', 'sattlements', 'encourged', 'compaines', 'behin', 'polution', 'atmostpahre', 'essentail', 'scienitists', and 'artic'. These lexical and spelling inaccuracies can cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the writing from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at complex structures such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'although the extinction of plants and animals is a serious environmental problem...'). There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and articles, such as missing determiners ('loss of specific species', 'cause irreverseable damage'), subject-verb agreement issues ('this polution cause', 'all the oceans of the earth rise'), and missing capitalization or punctuation marks. While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to follow the writer's main arguments.
