Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, some individuals argue that the major environmental issue of current time is tha loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others argue that there are more significant environmental problems. I believe that, environmental problems are most important as compared to loss of species because environmental demage badely effect our planet.

One view is that, environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species that is also important because every species has a considerable role in ecosystem, if one species disappears, it disturb the food chain and effect the other species. Another major aspect of this is that, plants and animals provide food, medicine and other resources, loosing of these animals may cause of ruduction of resources for further generation. Therefore, species play a significant role in our ecosystem and they assist us through providing food and other resources.

On the other hand, numerous individuals argue that, there are more important environmental issues because global warming effect the entire planet. For instance, climate change may cause of floods, rising of temperature, rising the sea level that indirectly cause of extinction of species and also effect human lives. Another significant factor is that, cutting of forests causing of habitate loss and major cause of species extinction, so tackling deforstation may cause positive effect on climate change and solve several environmental problems at once.

In conclusion, although loss of particular species is a serious environmental concern, I believe that, climate change, deforstation, and pollution are more important prolems because they effect our planet and also have significant impact on humans and species.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and state a position: you recognise the importance of species loss, while arguing that wider problems such as climate change, deforestation and pollution are more significant. Relevant support includes the effects of species loss on food chains and the risks of climate change to people and wildlife. However, several points remain general, and the relationship between the examples and your ranking of the problems could be explained more fully. The response is also 243 words, below the required 250; the 20 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Add a developed example or explanation to meet the minimum and strengthen your reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on species loss, a paragraph on wider environmental problems, and a conclusion. This makes the two views easy to identify. You also use signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear because several ideas are joined into long, awkward sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “One view is that.” Linking phrases such as “Another major aspect” and “Another significant factor” are repeated and can feel mechanical. Improve cohesion by separating distinct claims, making cause-and-effect links explicit, and using clear references so readers can follow how each example supports your opinion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “ecosystem,” “food chain,” “global warming,” “climate change,” and “extinction.” These choices help communicate the subject and show an attempt to use more specific language than basic environmental terms. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “important,” “effect,” and “cause,” and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision: “demage,” “badely,” “loosing,” “ruduction,” and “deforstation.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “rising of temperature” and “cause positive effect.” Build a wider set of accurate environmental collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your ideas clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures, as in “if one species disappears, it disturb the food chain.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. For example, “it disturb” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “climate change may cause of floods” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Commas are also repeatedly placed after introductory phrases such as “I believe that,” and clauses are sometimes joined without clear punctuation. Practise accurate conditional sentences and verb patterns, and check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. Shorter, controlled sentences would help you express the same ideas more reliably.
