Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
It is undeniable that in this contemporary world, many factors are contributing to environmental issues and have become a major topic of discussion among individuals in recent times. Some people argue that one of biggest issue is that certain species of plants and animals are becoming extinct, while others believe that there are many other environmental problems that require consideration. I agree with the latter view because increased CO2 emissions due to fossil fuel burning is causing global warming and ozone layer depletion, which is contributing to climate change and human life difficult.
On the one hand, people who argue that the biggest environmental issue these days is that many species of plants and animals are becoming endagered, believe this because plants and animals play a vital role in maintaining ecosystem. Reduction or loss of certain species may disturb the ecosystem leading to environmental problems. For example, certain plants have ability to absorb the maximum CO2 and when they will become extinct, air quality will be reduced to much extend, moreover, animals are important part of food chain if any of the specie gets extinct the food chain will be disturbed and a certain population of species will be increased and cause problems for the environment.
On the other hand, supporters of the opposite view claim that there are alot of other environmental issues that require serious consideration. For example, increase number of car ownerships is leading to more fossil fuel burning and CO2 emissions which is ultimately depleting the ozone layer and causing global warming. I agree with this perspective because global warming is the biggest issue these days and it is causing severe climate related changes. For instance, certain Europian countries had observed a severe tempeature shift this year. The highest temperature recorded there was 42 degree celsius, making people exhausted and frustrated. People ran towards the coastal areas to escape from heat.
In conclusion, both views have valid points, although certain species of plants and animals are important to maintain ecosystem and their extinction is an environmental problem these days but i believe that serve climate changes due to extreme fossil fuel emmisions and global warming is a more alarming environmental problem. Therefore, it is essential to work on development of more renewal energy resources to protect the environment from ozone depletion and make the mankind survival more easy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both views and state a clear position: you consider species loss important but argue that climate change is the more alarming problem. The two body paragraphs give relevant support, including the role of species in ecosystems and the effects of heat in European countries. This meets the task well, and your examples help extend the main ideas. However, some claims are broad or not fully explained: the link between car ownership, ozone depletion and global warming is asserted rather than clarified, and the European heat example would be stronger with a specific place or clearer explanation of its significance. Develop these connections more precisely to make the support consistently convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction presents your position, the body paragraphs discuss each view in turn, and the conclusion restates your judgement. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the structure easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some sentences carry several linked points, particularly the explanation of species loss and the food chain, so the relationships between claims can become less clear. The repeated use of “For example” and “because” also makes some connections feel predictable. Separate complex explanations into clearer steps and use referencing or a wider range of transitions to show how each example supports the point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “ecosystem,” “food chain,” “fossil fuel emissions,” and “climate-related changes,” which allows you to discuss both views. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “require serious consideration.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, including “one of biggest issue,” “to much extend,” and “make the mankind survival more easy.” Spelling errors such as “endagered,” “Europian,” and “emmisions” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural environmental collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “which is contributing to climate change” and conditional phrasing in “if any of the specie gets extinct.” These attempts show some range, but grammatical control is uneven. Errors include missing or incorrect articles and plurals (“one of biggest issue,” “any of the specie”), agreement and verb forms (“when they will become extinct”), and sentence boundaries, as in “this year. The highest temperature.” Some long sentences also join several clauses without clear punctuation. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and conditional forms, and divide multi-part sentences where needed. More reliable control of these patterns would make the argument easier to read.
