Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that environmental problem are increasing significantly. Some people believe that it is due to loss of specific species of plants and animals such as deforestation. While others argued that there are more major environmental issues such as air and water pollution. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, the major environmental issue of our time is deforestation, leading to extinction of particular species of plants and animals. Although deforestation may offer numerous advantages, it can also negatively affect individuals' overall well-being, particularly when it is being done excessively. In addition, extinction of these species leads to global warming so, government should take some initaitives to solve these issues. some plants and animals are being used in medicine research for the purpose of experiment in order to treat illnesses. Studies have shown that medical researh teams are struggling a lot because of the extinction of plants and animals.
On the other hand, others say that there are more important environmental problems. Firstly, the waste material from industries are being discarded into the rivers, which is contaminating the water. As a result, number of water-born diseases are growing on daily basis. Another alarming environment issue is air pollution due to combustion of fossil fuels, which affecting the quality of air people breath. However, bad quality of air is contributing to arise the number of respiratory diseases. Governmeny should implement some strict laws to improve the quality of air and water.
In conclusion, I strongly agree with both the viewpoints because they both are affecting negatively and contributing to major environmental issues. These issues are negatively affecting the overall well-being of individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a clear overall position in the conclusion: “I strongly agree with both the viewpoints.” The two body paragraphs also present relevant concerns, including species loss, industrial water pollution and air pollution. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The link between deforestation and species extinction is relevant, but the claim that extinction causes global warming is not explained, and the medical-research point is asserted without a specific example or clear support. The pollution paragraph gives consequences, but could explain why these problems are more important or how they compare with biodiversity loss. Develop each main idea with a clearer explanation or example, and make your own position more precise. The response meets the stated length requirement; nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, connections are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “In addition, extinction of these species leads to global warming so” joins two claims without showing the reasoning between them, while “However” introduces a point that appears to support the preceding statement about air pollution rather than contrast with it. The conclusion repeats the general idea that both views matter but does not bring the discussion together. Use linking phrases to show precise relationships and make each paragraph’s sequence of claims more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of environmental and health vocabulary, including “deforestation,” “extinction,” “fossil fuels,” “contaminating the water,” and “respiratory diseases.” These choices make the topic clear, and some phrases show an attempt to use more specific language. However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive: “major environmental issue” and “environmental problems” recur, while “arise the number of respiratory diseases” is not a natural expression. There are also spelling errors, including “initaitives,” “researh,” and “Governmeny,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe diseases as “increasing” or “becoming more common,” rather than saying their number “arises.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “Although,” “which,” and “As a result,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur in both basic sentence patterns and more complex constructions. Examples include “environmental problem are increasing,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “air pollution due to combustion of fossil fuels, which affecting,” where the relative clause needs a finite verb. Articles and plural forms also need attention, as in “number of water-born diseases” and “extinction of these species.” Some punctuation and sentence-boundary choices make relationships less clear, particularly in the long sentence beginning “In addition.” Practise checking agreement, articles and clause structure, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause has a complete and correctly formed verb.
