Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays,The environment is facing many serious problems. Some people belive that the loss of different species of plants and animals is the main environmental problem,While oyhers think that there are more important issues. In my opinion,All environmental problems are the important,But climate change and polloution have greater impact on human life.On the one hand the loss of plants and animals is serious problem.Every plant and animal plays an important role in maintaining the balance of nature. For example Bees help plants grow by spreading pollen,While trees privide oxygen and shelter for many animals. If some species disapear,The natural food chain can disturbed. As a result,Humans may also face problems related to food and health. On the other hand some people believe that other environmental problems are more important.Air pollution, Water pollution and global warming affect millions of people around the world. For instance,Polluted air can cause breathing problems,While dirty water can spread dangerous diseases. Moreover,Climate change causes floods,Droghts and extreme tempratures,These problems can damage homes,Destroy crops and threaten human lives. In my opinion,Both views are reasonable. However,I believe that pollotion and climate change are more urgent problems because they are affect both humans and animals. They can also destroy natural habitats and cause many speices to disapear,Therefore,Government and individuals should work together to reduce pollution, plant more trees and protect wildlife. In conclusion,The loss of plants and animals is major environmental issue,But other problems such as pollution and climate change are equally serious or even more urgent. We must take immediate action to protect our planet for new generation.Planting even one tree in our neighbourhood which make difference in the fresh air in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both views and give a clear opinion: you recognise the importance of species loss, while arguing that pollution and climate change are more urgent because they affect people and wildlife. Relevant examples—bees spreading pollen, polluted air causing breathing problems, and climate-related floods and droughts—help explain your points. This meets the task well, although some claims remain broad. For example, you mention effects on “food and health” without explaining a specific consequence, and the final suggestion about planting one tree is not clearly connected to the essay’s wider argument. Develop one or two examples further and make the conclusion’s practical recommendation more precise to strengthen the support for your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because many sentences begin with capitalised linking words, and several ideas are joined in long sequences with commas rather than clearly separated. The final paragraph also moves quickly from the comparison to recommendations and then to the tree-planting point, so its progression is less smooth. Use paragraph breaks consistently, vary transitions, and make references such as “these problems” clearly point to a specific issue.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “food chain,” “natural habitats,” “global warming,” and “extreme temperatures,” which allows you to discuss both sides of the question. However, spelling errors and imprecise or awkward word combinations are noticeable, including “belive,” “polloution,” “Droghts,” and “make difference in the fresh air.” Some key terms are also repeated, particularly “problems” and “important.” These issues make the expression less natural and occasionally slow the reader, even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Check spelling carefully and build a more precise range of collocations—for example, describe pollution as “posing a serious health risk” and species as “becoming extinct.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures such as “If some species disappear…” and “As a result, humans may also face problems…”. The main ideas are usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “the natural food chain can disturbed,” which needs a passive form (“can be disturbed”), “they are affect both humans and animals,” and “Planting even one tree… which make difference,” where the clause and verb forms are not controlled. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise checking each sentence for a complete verb phrase, subject–verb agreement, and correct use of articles; this will make your varied structures more reliable.
