Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
In recent years, the number of environmental problems in our surroundings has increased, such as air pollution, water problems, and smoking problems. These problems are negatively affecting us. I will discuss both views related to environmental issues. I will give you some reasons that will support my perspective.
Some people say that there are various problems that cause a loss of the value of animals and forests.
One of the biggest problems in my country is cuuting deforestation. Some reasons why this problem is increasing: the first reason is that a wide variety of populations are consuming a lot of trees for their purposes, such as furniture, burning, and food. The second reason, our government is making considerable efforts to create places for people, like parks and museums. Unfortunately, these issues have created more resources for all human beings to breathe and environmental pollution.
Other people say that the main environmental problems of our times are the loss of particular species and animals. Many reasons why the values of animals and plants have been destroyed, because a lot of people are becoming more addicted to social media rather than caring. Most of time, we stay in touch with social chatting and entertainments like movie and series.
From my point of view, both problems are important; however, all types of problems are mainly dangerous for every person.
To sum up, I discussed both environmental causes, those were affected both physical health and mental health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response attempts to discuss both views and gives a brief opinion that both problems matter, but it does not clearly explain the contrast in the question. The first body paragraph focuses on deforestation and development, while the second links species loss to people using social media; this does not establish why biodiversity loss is considered the main problem or compare it with other environmental threats. The conclusion merely repeats that both affect health, without resolving which view you support. The response is also 7 words below the required minimum. To improve, explain each view directly, give relevant examples and consequences, and state a clear, consistent opinion supported by reasons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, an opinion and a conclusion, and phrases such as “Some people say,” “Other people say” and “To sum up” help signal stages. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from deforestation to government projects and then to pollution without explaining the links, while the social-media point in the next paragraph is not clearly connected to species loss. Some transitions are mechanical, and “these issues” has an unclear reference. Organise each body paragraph around one view, then develop it through a clear reason and consequence. A more direct comparison would also make the overall argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant environmental vocabulary, including “air pollution,” “deforestation,” “species,” and “environmental issues,” and attempt more formal expressions such as “considerable efforts.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. For example, “loss of the value of animals and forests” does not express loss of species, and “smoking problems” is an imprecise description of an environmental issue. “A wide variety of populations” and “create more resources … to breathe” are also awkward in context. Choose precise terms for the task and check collocations; for instance, explain habitat destruction or air pollution rather than relying on vague phrases such as “problems.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes mostly straightforward sentence forms and some attempts to extend ideas with clauses, such as “Some reasons why this problem is increasing.” However, several sentence patterns are incomplete or incorrectly formed, limiting clarity. “Some reasons why this problem is increasing:” is a fragment, and “The second reason, our government is making…” lacks a grammatical link between the topic and the main clause. In “Many reasons why the values of animals and plants have been destroyed, because…,” the sentence has no clear main clause. There are also errors in articles, plurals and agreement, as in “Most of time” and “movie and series.” Practise complete clauses and use a wider range of accurate sentence structures to connect reasons and results.
