Student answer (Band 5.0)

some people believe that the extinction of certain plants and animals speices is the most serious environmental problem today, while others argue that there are more signifant environmenatal issues. lathough the loss of bioddiversity is a major concern, i believe that problems such as climate change, water pollution and air pollution are equally important because they affect equally both humans and the natural world.

On the one hand, the disappearance of plants and animals can have a serious consequences for the environment. every species plays a particular role in maintaining the balance of nature. for example, bees helps in pollinate flowers and crops, while forest provides habitat for numerous animals. if certain species become extinct, food chains may be disrupted, and other organism could also be threatened. furthermore

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You introduce the topic and give a clear opinion: biodiversity loss is serious, but climate change and pollution are equally important because they affect people and nature. The example of bees and the explanation that extinction can disrupt food chains are relevant to the first view. However, the response stops before discussing the opposing view in any detail, and your own position is not supported with examples or developed reasons about climate change, water pollution, or air pollution. The task therefore receives only minimal treatment rather than a balanced discussion of both views. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, which limits how fully you can address the question. Develop a separate paragraph for the other environmental problems and explain why you consider them equally important.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The opening establishes the topic and your position, and “On the one hand” signals the start of a discussion of species loss. The example about bees then follows logically from the point about species’ roles in nature. These features give the response some organisation. However, the essay ends abruptly at “furthermore,” so there is no completed development, contrasting paragraph, or conclusion to guide the reader through the full argument. The linking words that do appear are limited, and the progression from the introduction to the unfinished first point is not enough to create a complete line of reasoning. Plan distinct paragraphs for each view and your opinion, and use transitions to show how each point relates to the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “extinction,” “biodiversity,” “food chains,” and “habitat,” which helps communicate the subject. Phrases such as “maintaining the balance of nature” also show an attempt to express environmental ideas beyond basic terms. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “speices,” “signifant,” “environmenatal,” and “bioddiversity,” and they reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Some phrasing is also imprecise: “affect equally both humans and the natural world” is awkward, and “forest provides habitat” needs more natural wording. Check spelling carefully and build accurate collocations for discussing environmental impacts. A broader range of precise terms would also help you explain the second view.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and more complex structures. For example, the opening uses a contrast with “while,” and “If certain species become extinct, food chains may be disrupted” combines a conditional clause with a passive construction. These attempts show some range. However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries recur: “a serious consequences” should use a singular or plural form consistently, “bees helps” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “forest provides” needs an appropriate article or plural form. Several sentences also begin with lowercase letters, and the final “furthermore” leaves a sentence unfinished. Review agreement and articles, and proofread punctuation and sentence completion so that complex ideas remain clear.
