IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
some people say that the main causes of envirments belongs with loss of particular species of plant and animals whereas, some thinks that their are far more important and better issues of envirnment . In my opinion, yes their are more important issues of envirnment like deforestation and overpopulation to deal with.
On the one hand, the extinction of plants and animals can have serious concerns for the natural environment. Every species plays a particular role in maintaining the balance of an ecosystem.certain animals control the population of other species. If these organisms disappear, food chains may be disturbed, and this can negatively affect agriculture and human survival.for maintaining a food chain between different species it is important to take care of plants and animals. For example, bees help pollinate crops.
on the other hand,In recent times we are facing some big challanges in our envirnment like deforestation . Deforestation is a major issue because cutting and removal of trees are very threatning in different aspects of our envirnment . Deforestation can cause loss of habitat for wild animals and it can cause soil erosion which can leads to a further disasters like floods.Deforestation is now a concerning point because it is a major factor in climate change .for instance: whole europion countries are facing a severe heat wave because they donot tackel the problem of deforestation very well.
In conclusion,Many people thinks that loss of plant and animal is a big loss of envirnment but other says there are more

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views: the first body paragraph explains how species contribute to ecosystem balance and food chains, while the second discusses deforestation and climate change. Your opinion is stated in the introduction, but it is not fully developed or consistently reinforced, and the conclusion is unfinished (“other says there are more…”), so the response does not clearly complete the comparison or restate your position. The examples are relevant, particularly bees pollinating crops, but the claim about European heat waves is broad and its link to deforestation is not explained. The response is also two words below the required minimum. Develop the reasons for why other environmental problems are more important, support examples more precisely, and finish with a clear conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and an attempted conclusion. The contrast markers “On the one hand” and “on the other hand” help signal the discussion. However, progression is weakened by abrupt transitions within paragraphs and by the incomplete final sentence, which leaves the argument without a proper ending. Some links are repetitive or awkward, such as “for maintaining a food chain” after the explanation of ecosystem roles, and several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Use one main point per paragraph, connect each example explicitly to that point, and ensure the conclusion summarises both views and your opinion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant environmental vocabulary, including “extinction,” “ecosystem,” “food chains,” “habitat,” and “soil erosion,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, for example “envirments,” “challanges,” “threatning,” and “europion.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “serious concerns for the natural environment” and “a further disasters.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and avoid repeating “major issue” and “environment” when a more specific term would express the idea. Building a small set of precise phrases for causes and consequences would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If these organisms disappear, food chains may be disturbed,” and a relative clause in “which can leads to a further disasters.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include subject–verb agreement (“some thinks,” “Many people thinks”), incorrect verb forms (“can leads”), and sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, such as “ecosystem.certain” and “survival.for.” There are also inconsistent capital letters at sentence beginnings. Practise checking agreement and verb forms, and separate complete sentences with appropriate punctuation. More accurate control of these basic patterns will make your complex ideas easier to understand.
