Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Environment related issues are always been a debate among people. Some argue that it is due to the loss of plants and animals while other people claims that apart from loss of species there are some more factors that affects our environment. In my perspective there are more factors like urbanization and deforestation which leads to environmental problems.

Plants and animals play a vital role in our eco system. They make the environment clean by following the food chain. But with passage of time it has been noticed that some particular spieces are going to be extent. Which is considered to be an alarming situation for our eco system. Because every creature has there own duties appointed by nature to them. For instance , it is duty of plants to intake carbon dioxide and emit oxygen to the environment But with the passage of time the number of plants in our surrounding is decreasing day by day. Which leads us to some serious environmental issues.

Similarly, there are many other factors which affect our eco-system in a bad manner. The expention of cities leads us to a risk of pollution. By manufacturing more factories and machineries, Air will become contaminated and will cause serious lungs problems to the population. Furthermore, cutting of trees in an unmannered way will cause serious environmental problems like soil errosion, Air pollution and many others like this. For avoiding such issues we should take part in activities related to cleanliness and should provide awareness regarding these serious issues of environment.

In conclusion, Athough endangering of some species cause risk to our environment but the major risk which affects our surroundings are due to human act. We should control these activities which may cause issues to us by providing awareness to our youngesters and controlling urbanization and deforestation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: species loss matters, but you consider urbanisation and deforestation the greater threats. The paragraph on biodiversity gives a relevant explanation of plants’ role in the ecosystem, while the later paragraph develops pollution and soil erosion as consequences of human activity. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view is explained mainly through plants and oxygen, with little detail about animal species or why their loss is significant. The other environmental problems are also listed more than fully explored, and the conclusion repeats your position rather than drawing the comparison together. Develop each view with a specific example and explain why you judge one problem more serious.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from species loss to wider human-caused problems is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Similarly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Which is considered to be an alarming situation” is an incomplete follow-on sentence, and “Because every creature…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point. Use complete sentences and clearer references, and link examples explicitly to the argument rather than relying mainly on transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “food chain,” “carbon dioxide,” “contaminated,” “soil erosion,” and “deforestation,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “endangering of some species.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “spieces,” “extent” for “extinct,” “expention,” and “unmannered” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, including “serious lungs problems” and “provide awareness.” Repetition of broad terms such as “environmental problems” and “serious issues” limits the range. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations; more precise terms for impacts and causes would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex structures, including clauses with “while,” “which,” and “because,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “Environment related issues are always been a debate” needs a correct verb construction, while “other people claims” and “factors that affects” show agreement errors. “Which is considered…” and “Because every creature…” are fragments when separated from the preceding sentences. Capitalisation and punctuation are also uneven, as in “Air” within a sentence and the comma spacing in “For instance ,”. Practise checking each sentence for a complete subject and verb, then review agreement and punctuation.
