Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Environment has many problems that we are dealing everyday. Although, part of the problem is the extinction of some of our species of plants and animals due. However, I believe that there are more other problems that need we are facing.
To give more details, Some species of plants and animal are in extinction due to natural and human factors. For example, some certain plants and animal are dying due to pollutions and chemical abuse. Some dies naturally due to natural causes. It becomes a problem as these species are essential in balancing our ecosystem and helps in our environmental safety.
On the other hand, aside from animals and plants. There are other predicaments tgat we are facing right know such as pollution, global warming. These are very important in our survival and our health. I will guve a clearer example for pollution and how it affects the environment. Pollution poses risk to human being as this can destroy the health of plant, animal and human. Moreover, Global warming can create climate change and this will destroy humanity. For example, cars that emit gasses will
block the atmosphere that can create and trap the temperature. As a result, this can lead to floods, melting of ice, too much heat and all these will affect all living things and non living things.
In conclusion, Even though the loss species of plants and animals are part of the problem. I strongly believe that other environmental factors are more important issue to consider given that this affects everything.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear opinion: species loss matters, but you consider pollution and global warming more important because they affect human health and wider ecosystems. The examples about chemical pollution, vehicle emissions, and melting ice are relevant and help explain your position. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the discussion of species loss is brief, and the claim that some species disappear naturally is not connected clearly to why this is an environmental problem. Your explanation of global warming also needs greater precision; for example, explain how greenhouse-gas emissions trap heat rather than saying cars “block the atmosphere.” Develop each main point with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation to make the response more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Although” and “However” are used together at the start, while “To give more details” does not clearly signal the first viewpoint. The sentence fragment “On the other hand, aside from animals and plants” interrupts the transition into the second view, and “this” in the pollution discussion has an unclear reference. Use complete topic sentences and make each pronoun refer unmistakably to a specific idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of environmental vocabulary, including “extinction,” “ecosystem,” “pollution,” “global warming,” and “climate change.” These terms show that you can discuss the topic, and phrases such as “balancing our ecosystem” communicate a relevant idea. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “in extinction,” “chemical abuse,” and “more other problems.” Some spelling errors, such as “predicaments tgat” and “guve,” also reduce control. The repeated use of broad words such as “problem” and “affects” limits precision. Aim for natural topic-specific combinations and check spelling; for instance, distinguish between species being endangered and becoming extinct.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “as this can destroy the health…” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “Environment has many problems that we are dealing everyday” is missing an article and a preposition, while “Some dies naturally” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. “It becomes a problem as these species … and helps” also shifts from plural to singular agreement. There are sentence fragments and inconsistent capitalisation after full stops. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then review agreement and punctuation.
