Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many citizens belief that the present and main concern of environment is the loss of particular species of plants and animals, while others consider that there are more crucial environmental problems that needs attention. In my opinion, the extinction of some of plans or animals affects the nature but the other major problems like diferent pollutions, deforestation and the overuse of natural things are the main reason that causing climate change, natural disasters and much more damages.

The loss of particular plants and animals do affect the environment. The extinction of some animals cause the disturbance in life cycle, which results in the change in biodiversity. Also, there are several plants which are useful in medicines and even one of the main origin of food for vegeterians. For example, there are many herbs which are useful in the treatment of allergies, the extinct of such plants may result in more health issues of the humans.

On the other hand, there are plenty of other reasons that significantly causing environmental crisis. Some of them are air pollution, water pollution, global warming and many more. The exescive use of air travels of human and the over use of plastics are generating air pollution and water pollution. As a result, the population suffers severe climate change nowadays. Also, the deforestation is another issue that needs to stop, which creating the loss the green-nature. For instance, in Australia the public are facing severe climate change and excess heat due to deforestation. The nature needs more trees around for good air quality.

In conclusion, although the loss of particular plants and animals affects the evironment and biodiversity but other problems like pollution, global warming and deforestation needs more attention in order to solve enviromental problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a clear opinion: species loss matters, but pollution, deforestation and other environmental pressures deserve greater attention. The two body paragraphs are relevant, and examples such as medicinal plants and deforestation in Australia help illustrate your points. This meets the task well overall. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the link between species loss and biodiversity is stated but not explained, and the Australian example is broad rather than supported with a specific detail. Your discussion of pollution and climate change also groups several problems together without showing how they differ in importance. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each key example more precisely and connect them directly to your position. The response meets the required length; 10 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from species loss to wider environmental problems is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help orient the reader. This is a coherent arrangement, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “As a result” does not clearly show how the preceding examples of air travel and plastic use lead to the population suffering climate change. The sentence about deforestation also combines the problem and its consequence awkwardly. Use more precise links between cause and effect, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning rather than listing related concerns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of environmental vocabulary, including “extinction,” “biodiversity,” “deforestation,” “air pollution” and “climate change.” These terms make the topic clear, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “disturbance in life cycle.” However, word choice, collocation and spelling are often inaccurate, which limits precision: “citizens belief” should be “people believe,” “exescive use” is misspelled, and “overuse of natural things” is vague. Other phrases, such as “loss the green-nature” and “main origin of food,” are not natural English collocations. Build a bank of accurate topic phrases and check spelling and word forms. More precise wording would make your ideas easier to understand and sound more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the opening sentence and clauses introduced by “which” and “although.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “problems that needs attention” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the extinction of some animals cause” also needs agreement. In “the deforestation is another issue … which creating,” the clause is incomplete, and the conclusion’s “although … but” construction is not grammatically well formed. Work on agreement, complete relative clauses and sentence patterns with “although.” Aim to produce more accurate complex sentences before adding further complexity.
