Student answer (Band 5.5)

Forest loss and reclamation are main environmental issues especially in country islands. Some people believe extinction of plants and animals are the most essential, while others opinion argue that there are more important problems which should be worried. However, people who live with nature should concerning every environmental issues around.

Marine and land conservation impacts from human activities is common. Illegal logging and forest conversion decreased endemic species, because habitat loss led to extinction of, not only for not non-evaluated individu, but also critically endangered creatures. In addition, reclamation of the sea for industry would disturb marine population. As consequences, animals and plants in ocean would in trouble.

Meanwhile, others issues like sustainable energy and resource are another important thing that could be predict. Massive development of industry would exploitated source of energy because its need larger power supply. As a result, the energy use and the waste would effects environtment. Clean water contamination, for example. Unresponsible companies for not concerning about waste, where it could be poisonous to consume and overuse of the energy source would also affects future generation.

However, people awareness of every environment issues should be increased, because connect the problems connect each other. For instance, oil contamination by ship oil will affects quality of water. Then noise pollution would be disturb marine animals, they become stressfull, or worse, cause death. This advantages could even happen in a long term.

Overall, people should aware of environmental issues. Conservation problem or other aspects should be concerned because extinction and disease happened accidentally. There is always a reason and people could take preventive action and support continuosly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views: the first body paragraph discusses species loss through logging, forest conversion and sea reclamation, while the next raises energy use, waste and water contamination as wider environmental concerns. Your conclusion also signals that environmental problems are connected. However, the response only partially develops the comparison and your own position is not consistently clear. The opening says people should be concerned about “every environmental issues,” but the conclusion does not clearly state which view you consider more important or explain why. Several examples, such as “not non-evaluated individu,” are difficult to interpret, and the effects of energy use are asserted rather than explained. State your position directly and develop each main point with a clear cause, consequence and relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a paragraph about their connection and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Meanwhile” and “Overall” help signal movement between points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because ideas are joined without clear relationships. For example, the sentence beginning “Unresponsible companies” combines water contamination, poisonous waste and energy use in a confusing way. The paragraph beginning “However” also shifts from general awareness to oil pollution and noise without clearly explaining how these examples support your position. Use topic sentences that identify each paragraph’s main point, and make each following sentence explain or illustrate that point. Clearer referencing would also help readers track what “This advantages” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “endemic species,” “critically endangered,” “reclamation,” “marine population” and “contamination.” This shows an effort to discuss environmental issues beyond basic terms. However, inaccurate word choice, word forms and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “country islands,” “not non-evaluated individu,” “exploitatated source,” “environtment” and “continuosly.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “sustainable energy and resource are another important thing” and “animals and plants in ocean would in trouble.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. Choosing simpler, precise expressions is more effective than using technical-sounding phrases whose meaning is unclear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect clauses with “because” and “as a result,” and a conditional-style explanation beginning “where it could be poisonous.” However, the range is limited and many sentences contain errors in agreement, verb forms, articles or sentence construction, which can make the reader work to understand the message. For example, “Marine and land conservation impacts … is common” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “people who live with nature should concerning” uses an incorrect verb form. In “noise pollution would be disturb,” the modal is followed by an incorrect verb structure. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement and use the base form after modal verbs such as “would.”
