Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different views about whether the loss of some specific species of plants and animals is the main reason for environmental problems, while others believe that there are more crucial environmental problems. I believe that there are various reasons are responsible for environmental problem.

On the one hand, some people have argued that loss of particular plants and animals is the main cause of environmental problem. Deforestation is one of the main reasons for increasing global warming and also cause of unusual climate changing. Consequently, different countries are facing natural disasters such as, Tornedo, Tsunami and so on. For example, this year Nepal have faced sever natural disasters and lost many lives natural resources. In addition, some species of animals have become extinct, adding a bad impact on our environment.

On the other hand, I believe that several reasons are responsible for create environmental problem. Although loss of animals and plants is a vital cause for environmental issue, other causes such as, air pollution, watter pollution are also responsible for create this environmental problems. For instance, water pollution is increasing day by day, using plastics is one of the main reasons for contaminate water. As a reasult, many aquatic animals are facing difficulties in serviving. Forthermore, air pollution is another reason for environmental problems, creating health issues due to air contamination.

In conclusion, although extinct of some particular species of plants and animals is responsible for environmental issue, at the same time others causes are also responsible for environmental problems. Therefore, we should be aware of the environmental problems and take some important measures to addressed this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and give a general position: the first body paragraph presents species loss and deforestation, while the second argues that pollution is also important. This addresses the main parts of the prompt. However, your opinion is not fully clear in the introduction, where “various reasons are responsible” does not specify which environmental problems you consider most important. Some support is also under-developed: the Nepal example is difficult to connect to species loss, and the essay does not explain in detail how biodiversity loss affects the environment. To strengthen the response, state your position directly and develop each main point with a clear cause-and-effect explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow this structure. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes less clear because several claims are placed together without fully explaining their links. For example, the first body paragraph moves from deforestation to global warming, disasters, and species loss, but the relationship between these points is not consistently made explicit. Some linking phrases, such as “For example” and “As a result,” are used mechanically or introduce claims that need more explanation. Use clearer references and connect each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “deforestation,” “global warming,” “air pollution,” “water pollution,” and “extinct,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “aquatic animals” and “air contamination.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “unusual climate changing,” “a bad impact,” “serviving,” and “reasult” are examples. Repetition of “environmental problem(s)” also makes the writing less varied. Aim to use accurate topic collocations and check spelling; for instance, describe “climate change” and say that pollution “harms ecosystems” rather than using vague or unnatural phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concession beginning “Although loss of animals and plants is a vital cause…” and a result clause introduced by “Consequently.” These structures help express relationships between ideas. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “there are various reasons are responsible,” “deforestation … also cause,” “Nepal have faced,” and “measures to addressed.” Some sentences also combine ideas in ways that make the grammatical relationship unclear. Practise building accurate clauses before adding complexity, especially subject–verb agreement and verb patterns after “to.” Careful proofreading for articles and plural forms would also improve control.
