Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Enviromental problem is one of the main concern of the higher authorites all over the world. While some argue that the loss of some particular species of plants and animals is the main issue of enviromental problem. While others say that there are more important enviormental problems. Although both views are correct, But I believe that there are other more factors that causes more harm to our lives.
Enviromental issues like pollution are really causing difficulties for plants and animal species. These species are as important for our planet as human beings. The loss of particular plants and species are really disturbing the overall sequence of our lives. Lets take an example of `Golden Toad formerly native to Costa Rica the animal has not been seen since 1991 due to the shifting regional rainfall patterns. Therefore, loss of animal and plants species is one of the major enviromental problem.
On the other hand, there are many other importan enviromental factors that we cannot take for granted. Global warming is the most important enviromental problem, The excessive emission of carbon in the air is the main source of constant increaase in earth temperature. Due to this particular reason, many countries are facing constant floods, unpredictable rain pattern and which resulted in the loss of million of lives. These enviromental problems are more dangerous for us as compared to the problem of loss of particular animal and species.
Although loss of plants and animals is really disturbing the natural cycle of the earth. Governments and relevant authorities should take every necessary measure to prevent this from happening. But other major enviromental problems like global warming, floods etc are more dangerous for the world and demands extreme attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and make your position clear: you acknowledge species loss as serious, then argue that global warming and related impacts are more dangerous. The Golden Toad example gives the first view some relevant support, while the discussion of emissions, floods and loss of life supports your opinion. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The first body paragraph largely repeats that species loss is important, and the second makes broad claims about global warming without a specific example or explanation of how its effects compare with biodiversity loss. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of species extinction more fully and support your comparison with a precise example or clearer reasoning about relative scale and urgency.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the discussion, and transitions such as “On the other hand” signal the shift between perspectives. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The introduction repeats “While” and then uses “Although” and “But” in a way that makes the relationship between ideas awkward. In the second body paragraph, “and which resulted” does not connect smoothly to the preceding list. Some references, such as “this particular reason” and “these environmental problems,” could identify their meaning more precisely. Use fewer formulaic transitions and link each claim to its explanation with clearer referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “species,” “global warming,” “emission of carbon,” “rainfall patterns” and “natural cycle,” which allows you to discuss the issue. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “shifting regional rainfall patterns.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including repeated forms such as “Enviromental” and “enviormental,” as well as “increaase” and “importan.” Some word choices and collocations are imprecise: “higher authorites” is unclear, “sequence of our lives” does not naturally express ecological effects, and “constant floods” is not an apt description. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common environmental collocations, such as “biodiversity loss,” “rising global temperatures” and “extreme flooding.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “Although both views are correct” and a cause-and-effect explanation beginning “Due to this particular reason.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “While some argue … While others say …” creates an incomplete, repeated construction, and “the loss … are” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “many countries are facing constant floods, unpredictable rain pattern and which resulted,” the list and verb structure do not form a complete, parallel sentence. There are also run-on sentences, particularly in the Golden Toad example. Practise joining clauses accurately and checking agreement, articles and singular/plural forms.
