Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that loss of specific plants and animals species is the major environmental problem, whereas in some people opinion there are many other major environmental problems. While both views are correct, but I believe there are many other important problem which needs to be overcome to save plants and animals.

On the one hand, loss of species of plants and animals of our time is the environmental problem becuase of forest cutting and making an experiments on animals. For example, nowadays, there is an increase in population so the government cut the forests to accomodate humans which can cause the loss of species. Moreover, there is an upgrade in technology so many animals and plants were used for experiments, as result we find shortage in species.

On the other hand, there are many other important environmental problem, one of them is pollution. Pollution is the major environmental problem which can cause diseases not only in human beings but also other species are affected with this problem. For instance, air pollution can cause lungs problem, water pollution causes stomach problem and noise pollution can also cause many problems in both human and animals. Also polluted water is not good for water creatures, it causes problem of seeing and navigating and in finding their food which can lead to death.

In conclusion, although loss of plants and animals is the most important environment problem which can cause by increase in population and lab experiments, but I believe there are many other major problem which needs to be fixed first to save human beings, animals and plants.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear overall position: you acknowledge species loss, then argue that other environmental problems also need attention. The two body paragraphs are relevant, with examples involving forest clearance, animal experiments and pollution. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view is supported mainly by brief causes, while the pollution paragraph gives more detail about effects on people and wildlife. Your conclusion says other problems should be fixed “first,” but the essay does not explain why they should take priority over species loss. Develop the comparison more explicitly and extend each main idea with a clear explanation or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, ideas sometimes feel listed rather than fully connected. For example, the pollution paragraph moves from human diseases to effects on aquatic creatures without clearly linking these points to your argument about which problems are more important. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Moreover,” “For example,” and “Also.” Use clearer references and transitions that show cause, contrast, or consequence, and make the relationship between each example and your position explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “species,” “pollution,” “population,” and “experiments.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes some phrases awkward: “in some people opinion,” “an upgrade in technology,” and “problem of seeing and navigating.” Spelling errors such as “becuase” and “accomodate” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise environmental vocabulary and check common word partnerships; for instance, describe forests being cleared to make room for housing, and explain that polluted water can impair aquatic animals’ vision and navigation. This would make your meaning clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession in the introduction and cause-and-effect clauses such as “which can cause the loss of species.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening has an unnecessary “but” after “While,” and agreement is inconsistent in phrases such as “many other important environmental problem” and “which needs to be overcome.” There are also errors in articles and sentence construction, as in “as result we find shortage in species.” Review plural agreement, article use, and how to form clauses after “while” and “as a result.” More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
