Student answer (Band 5.5)

A group of people believes that the loss of the particular species of plants and animals is the biggest environmental problem in our time. Whereas, a certain group of people says there are other environmental problems which are more important. The essay shall discuss both the views.

To commence with, people who think lossing certain species of plants and animals is the main environmental loss as once they got endangered it will be lot harder to see them. Because humans are hunting down these animals and cut down trees and animals to smuggle their skins which directly affects the ecosystem and the lifecycle of these plants and animals. For an instance, the number of bengal tiger got decreased significantly because of constantly hunting and they were on the verge of extinction as very few were left. The Government started the campaign, assign well trained people and initiate the rescues of these tigers and saves one species before it gets extinct.

On the other hand, a certain group of people who believes that there are more important environmental problems such as global warming and pollution. As, the human popullation increases the land for making homes decreased, in order to find space people start cutting down of trees and wipping off the forest affects environment. All these events eventually leads to global warming. Its cosequences are severe, due to global warming the sudden climatic changes increases a lot. Due to this, people experience a sudden rise in heat or heavy rainfall and other natural calamities which affects the living organism.

To conclude, i believe both lossing particular plants and animals species and other environmental problems are the biggest concern. People should preserve the plants and animals also, they should keep the environment clean and safe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and give a position in the conclusion, so the response addresses the main parts of the task. The examples of tiger hunting and global warming are relevant, and you explain some consequences, such as species becoming endangered and climate-related heat or heavy rainfall. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the first view focuses mainly on hunting, while the second combines population growth, deforestation, pollution and global warming without explaining their relative importance. Your opinion that both are “the biggest concern” is also broad and is not supported with a clear reason for why you consider them equally important. Develop each view with a more specific explanation and make your own position more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the other hand” help signal the shift between perspectives, and the examples generally appear alongside the relevant point. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the sentence beginning “To commence with” has an unclear structure, and the sequence from population growth to deforestation and then global warming needs clearer links. Some connectors are used mechanically or inaccurately, including “Whereas” as a sentence opening and repeated “Due to this.” Use complete, clearly linked sentences and make each paragraph follow a simple pattern: main idea, explanation, and supporting example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “endangered,” “ecosystem,” “extinction,” “global warming,” and “climatic changes,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “on the verge of extinction.” However, the range is limited in places, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “main environmental loss,” “lossing,” “cut down of trees,” and “wipping off the forest” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “popullation,” “cosequences,” and “bengal” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of accurate environmental collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some passages difficult to read. For example, “people who think lossing certain species … is the main environmental loss as once they got endangered” lacks a clear main clause and has inconsistent tense. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary problems in “the sudden climatic changes increases” and “All these events eventually leads.” The opening “Whereas” fragment and comma-separated clauses further weaken control. Practise constructing complete sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and separating independent clauses with appropriate punctuation.
