Student answer (Band 6.0)
Well talking about environment, today our surroundings have changed drastically. We can blame the urbanization which is taking place all over the world, which is constant due to increasing population.
Today some people believe that the key environmental problem we are currently facing is the wiping out of endangerd species of plants and animals, where as others say that there are much more important issues related to environment which needs more of our attention. I believe that both of these environmental problems go hand in hand. There is no possibility of flaura and fauna to flourish if the conditions are not favourable.
For instance if there is an area where the factories are made after deforestation, the animals would suffer due to lack of habitat. Deforestation would cause reduction in the quality of air, which would eventually affect the animals and humans too. The chemicals which are discarded in the river which eventually meets the ocean would pollute the water, causing damage to the marine life and would be difficult for us to get clean water for personal use. Many diseases could outbreak due to polluting land and waters along with air, which also affects the particular species of plants and animals. So in order to have a well balanced ecosystem it is required to make reforms to conserve the nature which would eventually help to conserve the wildlife and the plants.
To conclude I would say that environment is a very crucial part of lives, and it is our duty to help it flourish and in return it would nurture us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You present a relevant position—that species loss and wider environmental damage are connected—and support it with examples involving deforestation, factory development, polluted water and harm to wildlife. This gives the response a clear central idea. However, the discussion does not fully develop both views as separate arguments: the case for species loss as the main problem is mostly introduced rather than explained, and the alternative view is represented through examples without clarifying which broader problems are more important or why. Your conclusion restates the general duty to protect the environment but does not sharpen your comparison or opinion. Develop each side explicitly, then explain why you consider them interdependent or rank one as more urgent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph of examples and explanation, and a concluding statement. Ideas in the main paragraph generally progress from habitat loss to air and water pollution and their effects. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “So,” and “To conclude” help signal the direction of the discussion. At times, however, the connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening paragraph’s focus on urbanisation is not clearly carried into the later discussion, and the long example paragraph combines several effects without distinct stages. The repeated use of “which” also makes some relationships harder to follow. Use separate body paragraphs for the two views and clearer references to show how each example supports its point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “endangered species,” “deforestation,” “habitat,” “marine life,” and “ecosystem,” which allows you to discuss environmental impacts clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “conserve the nature” and “well balanced ecosystem,” though some combinations are not natural or precise. Spelling errors in “endangerd” and “flaura” are noticeable, and phrases such as “wiping out” are less formal than the task’s academic style requires. “Polluting land and waters along with air” is also awkwardly expressed. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and choose precise terms for the broader environmental problems you discuss.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures: “if there is an area…” and “which would eventually affect the animals and humans too.” Most of the meaning remains clear, and the examples are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. In “issues related to environment which needs,” the plural subject requires a plural verb; “the chemicals which are discarded in the river which eventually meets the ocean” also creates an unclear relative-clause connection. The opening sentence beginning “Well talking about environment” is an incomplete, informal construction, while several long sentences would benefit from clearer punctuation or division. Review agreement and build complex sentences with unambiguous clause relationships.
