Student answer (Band 5.0)

There has long been debate over whether the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. While it has a considerable impact on thr environment, many people argue that there are several reasons behide the environmental problems. I believe, loss of plants and animals is not only the main reason. This essay will examine the principal reasons and discuss both perspective before reaching a conclusion about its overall impact.

On the one hand, they claim about the species of plants and animals loss because it has a great impact on the environment, such as it has faced flood and drought. For example, plants help to store the water when flood has come, cutting trees make the floor dangarous. In addition, drought also happend for leak of water. While plants consume water for mud, people are cutting trees and create this kind of problems. Moreover, animals help to maintain the cycline of diversity, and losing animals are also a major issue of the environmental problems.

On the other hand, the supporters who believe that the main reason of environmental issues is not the loss of plants and animals. Although it is particularly true, I believe this is not the main reason. Because, environmental issues create on several reasons, such as air pollution, water pollution and sound pollution. For example, environment is like a cycle, whenever its one part felt problem it is become the worse. If water pollution, air pollution and sound pollution had reduced, the problems would not be created. As a result, we would not have to face these kind of problems, such as flood, drought, earthquake, uncertain warm and cold weather, too much rain.

In concusion, I would say that first approach is not the only reason for the environmental problems, there are several issues which create environment problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state a position, particularly in the introduction and conclusion: you argue that species loss is not the only environmental problem. However, the position is not fully clear because the introduction says it is “not only the main reason,” while the conclusion says it is “not the only reason.” The discussion is also limited and under-developed. The first view is linked to floods and droughts, but the explanation of how species loss causes these effects is unclear; the second view lists pollution types without explaining their relative importance. Develop each side with a specific, accurate example and make your own judgement explicit. The response meets the task’s length requirement; 17 words copied from the prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in perspective. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and links between claims are not always logical. For example, the first body paragraph moves from plants and flooding to drought and then animal diversity without clearly connecting these points. The second paragraph repeats the idea that environmental problems have several causes, while “As a result” introduces a list that does not clearly follow from the preceding sentence. Use clearer topic sentences and organise each paragraph around one developed reason, with linking phrases that show the actual relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant environmental vocabulary, including “species,” “air pollution,” “water pollution,” “drought,” and “diversity,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the argument difficult to understand. Phrases such as “plants consume water for mud,” “maintain the cycline of diversity,” and “the floor dangarous” do not express the intended ideas clearly. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “th,” “behide,” “happend,” and “concusion.” Build a more precise set of topic phrases and check spelling; for example, explain how vegetation absorbs water or how habitat loss affects biodiversity rather than relying on unclear expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “If water pollution, air pollution and sound pollution had reduced…”. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation can make meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “Although it is particularly true, I believe this is not the main reason. Because…” leaves an incomplete sentence, while “losing animals are also a major issue” has an agreement problem. “Whenever its one part felt problem it is become the worse” also shows problems with clause structure and verb forms. Practise building accurate complete sentences first, then combine them with subordinate clauses and conditionals; check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
