Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The recent global environmental change effecting in many area ,while some people think that the loss of various species of plants and animal are the most detrimental issue, others argued that there are far more important issue we have to think about aside from that. Here I will discuss both views and later i will give my opinion.
Primarily ,loss of different kinds of animals and plants are really a matter of sorrow for all of us, cause by this earth loss its biodiversity. Already many species are on verge of extinction due to constant change of environment. In some cases its also affecting the natural ecosystem. For example, if a plant which is responsible for producing flower and honey goes extinct , then the bees whose are dependent on those honey will also lose their source of food in that area. And in worst case they may go extinct over time. Such types of loss is really harmful for earth and future generation . But overgrowing population, deforestation are making those things hard to preserve.
On the other hand, we need to increase our concern in many more ecological issues which are arising day by day due to excessive use of natural resources . Various natural disaster has been happening frequently all over the world which are really a alarming issue for all of us. Global warming has been increasing continuously due to excessive carbon emission. As a result , the sea level is getting higher , which causes various natural disaster such as flood, tsunami and many more. Disaster like this can erase human existence in future , which are far more alarming issue then the loss of any particular plants or animal.
In conclusion , I think , though the loss of certain types of plant and animal are harmful for our ecosystem ,the other environmental issue which threatens our human existence are far more concerning topics than that.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and give a clear opinion in the conclusion: species loss harms ecosystems, but you consider threats to human existence more concerning. The bee-and-flower example supports the first view, while carbon emissions and rising sea levels support the second. This covers the task and includes relevant explanation. However, some points are less fully developed than others: the claim that disasters such as tsunamis result from rising sea levels needs clarification, and the comparison between threats to people and species loss is asserted rather than explored. To strengthen the response, explain the causes and consequences more precisely and develop why your chosen problems are more important overall.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Primarily” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the contrast, and examples are placed with the relevant arguments. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the progression within paragraphs is occasionally unclear. For instance, the move from natural disasters to global warming and then to human extinction would benefit from more explicit explanation of how each point connects. Referencing in “Such types of loss” and “Disaster like this” is also imprecise. Use transitions selectively and make links between cause, example, and consequence explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “biodiversity,” “ecosystem,” “deforestation,” “carbon emission,” and “sea level.” These terms help communicate the environmental focus, and phrases such as “on the verge of extinction” show an attempt to use less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “environmental change effecting,” “a matter of sorrow,” and “erase human existence.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “effecting” where “affecting” is intended and “animal” where a plural is needed. These do not prevent understanding, but more precise, natural phrasing would improve clarity and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures: “if a plant … goes extinct, then the bees … will also lose their source of food.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “loss … are” and “natural disaster has been happening”; articles and plurals are also problematic in “a alarming issue” and “plants and animal.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, particularly the opening sentence, which joins several ideas with commas. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and main verb. Greater accuracy across these structures would make your arguments easier to follow.
