Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the contemporary era, it is widely acknowledged that environmental problems is accelerated nowadays due to loss of particular species of plants and animals. However, others argued that there are huge environmental issues which caused worst impact on society. I will discuss both the views on following paragraphs.

To commence with, there are several causes of loss of species and animals like people use to cut the trees for making furniture and other wooden products, whereas hunting the animals to make meat to eat as well as like sheep is kill to make wool. This is the main reason plants and animals disappear from the earth. Moreover, other significant factor is loss of species of plants leads to deforestation and decrease oxygen level. For instance, in digital era, advancement of technology animals kill and export meat to the overseas and progress the business in the society. Therefore, this result into disturbance in food chain and develop major issues in environment.

On the contrary, there are more vital environmental problems like occurance of disaster such as earthquake, tsunami, flood so on. In addition, as pollution rapidly increases there is depletion of ozone layer through which uv rays directly effect on skin and caused skin cancer. Greenhouse effect and global warming is major concern of environmental problems. Temperature rises day by day , glacier melting. For instance man made disaster like nuclear bomb one of the cause of environmental problem.

In conclusion, both the statements provide effects on society as well as on environment. So, government should take effective measures to prevent environment from these issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You attempt to discuss both views, mentioning species loss in the first body paragraph and other environmental problems such as pollution, global warming and disasters in the second. However, the discussion is only partially developed: several examples are listed without explaining their relative importance, and the first paragraph’s claim that species loss leads to deforestation is unclear. Your conclusion says both views affect society but does not state which you consider the main problem, so your own opinion is not clearly established. To strengthen the response, explain why one set of problems is more serious, support each main point with a relevant example, and state your position directly in both the introduction and conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “To commence with,” “Moreover,” and “On the contrary” help signal movement between points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the discussion moves from tree-cutting and hunting to oxygen levels and technology without clearly connecting these ideas. Some linking phrases also suggest relationships that are not explained, particularly “Therefore” before the food-chain point. Organise each paragraph around one clear main idea, then explain it and give a directly relevant example. Clearer links between sentences would make the overall argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “deforestation,” “food chain,” “depletion of ozone layer,” “greenhouse effect,” and “global warming.” These terms show an attempt to discuss environmental issues beyond basic vocabulary. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “environmental problems is accelerated,” “huge environmental issues,” and “progress the business.” Spelling errors such as “occurance” and “effect” where “affect” is intended also reduce precision. Aim for natural, accurate combinations and check spelling and word forms. For example, describe problems as “worsening” or “becoming more severe,” and say that a practice “expands” or “supports” a business.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using clauses introduced by “whereas,” “as,” and “through which.” However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “environmental problems is,” “others argued,” “sheep is kill,” and “Temperature rises day by day, glacier melting,” which show problems with agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “other significant factor” and “one of the cause.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense consistency. Shorter, accurate sentences would help communicate your ideas more reliably while you develop complex structures.
