Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response recognises both sides of the discussion, referring to species loss and to present-day environmental problems such as flooding, and it attempts to give examples. However, it addresses the task only partially: the second view is barely explained, and there is no clear personal opinion or conclusion. The examples are also inaccurate or confusing—for instance, “white elephants” and “white sharks” are presented as species that have vanished, without clarification or support. The response contains 126 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 250. To develop the answer, explain why species loss matters, compare it with other environmental threats, and state and support your own view with relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction and two contrasting paragraphs, using “On one hand” and “On the other hand” to signal the discussion. This gives the reader some sense of direction. However, the progression is incomplete: the opening does not clearly introduce the two positions, and the second body paragraph ends abruptly without explaining the consequences of flooding or linking back to the question. Within the first body paragraph, several examples are listed without clear relationships between them. Develop each paragraph around one main point, use clear links between cause and effect, and add a concluding paragraph that states your opinion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “species,” “natural disasters,” “climate change,” “flood,” and “water levels.” These choices show an attempt to discuss environmental issues, but the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “pants” appears to mean “plants,” while “gleasiours” seems intended to mean “glaciers”; “white elephants” is also unclear as an example of an extinct species. Build a more accurate set of environmental terms and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for causes and impacts would help you explain the ideas rather than relying on short lists.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer clauses, such as “how climate change wiped out different species” and “this is because the gleasiours melting.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure and verb forms sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “Some of our ancestors says” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the gleasiours melting and they increas” lacks a complete, correctly formed clause. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because its clauses are not clearly connected. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense, articles, and punctuation when combining ideas.
