Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the topic and begins to present one relevant concern: fictional violence may negatively affect children and young people. However, it does not discuss both views in a meaningful way, give a clear personal opinion, or support its claims with reasons and examples. The opening says there are “advantages as well as disadvantages,” but no advantage is explained, and the response ends before developing its argument. The examples “killing, haunting, suicide attempts” are listed without showing how they relate to the question. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving the task minimally addressed. To improve, explain why some viewers see fictional violence as harmless, develop the opposing view, and state and justify your own position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph is followed by a paragraph about possible negative effects. The transition “However” signals contrast, and “These type of fictional violence” attempts to refer back to the topic. Nevertheless, the ideas do not progress into a complete discussion, and the second paragraph moves from examples to a broad claim without explanation. The opening promise of “several reasons” is not fulfilled, while the final list is cut off, leaving the response without a conclusion. Some linking is therefore present, but the overall progression is incomplete and referencing is unclear. Use separate paragraphs for each viewpoint and your opinion, connect each claim to an explanation or example, and finish with a concise conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “fictional violence,” “television,” “action movies,” “harmless,” and “negative impact,” so the reader can identify the subject. There is also an attempt to vary expression with “bad impact” and “negative impact.” However, the range is narrow and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “These type fictionality” and “haunting” do not clearly express the intended ideas, while “attempt bad things” is vague. Repetition of “fictional violence” and “impact” also limits flexibility. Aim for precise phrases such as “violent content,” “influence viewers’ behaviour,” and “depictions of crime,” and choose examples that clearly fit the argument. More accurate collocations would make the ideas easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes some straightforward sentence forms that communicate the general topic, such as “Some people think fictional violence is harmless” and “However, it can put a bad impact on the kids and youngsters.” There is an attempt at a longer sentence in “I base my statement on the several reasons in the paragraphs below,” but the overall range remains limited, with little development of complex structures. Agreement is inaccurate in “These type,” which should be “This type” or “These types.” The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “and,” and the punctuation around the unfinished list does not create a complete thought. Practise combining a claim with a reason using clauses such as “because” or “although,” and check agreement and sentence completion when proofreading.
