Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to address the prompt effectively. The task asks for a discussion on fictional violence on television, but the essay focuses almost exclusively on the reliability of news channels and personal anecdotes about family members. Because the content is largely irrelevant to the topic of 'fictional violence' and 'harmful behavior,' the response does not develop a clear position or provide relevant arguments. The ideas are disconnected from the prompt, making it difficult to identify a coherent response to the specific question asked.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is difficult to follow because the ideas do not progress logically. While there are paragraphs, the internal structure of each is weak, and the transition between sentences is often confusing. Referencing is frequently unclear; for example, the use of 'he' and 'the people' lacks specific antecedents, making it hard to track who the writer is referring to. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, leading to a disjointed reading experience that obscures the intended meaning.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words like 'news,' 'people,' 'good,' and 'bad,' which are insufficient for an academic discussion. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'unreal violence show' instead of 'fictional violence' and 'with the here of their brother' which is unintelligible. The lack of precise terminology prevents the student from expressing complex ideas, and the limited range of vocabulary significantly hinders communication throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede understanding. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the people who's saw'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence fragments. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Basic punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. The high frequency of errors throughout the text means that the reader must struggle to interpret the intended meaning, which is characteristic of a lower band score.
