Student answer (Band 5.5)
Fictional violence has become one of the most watched and consumed entertainment sectors in the whole world. Some people think that humans do what they see, so much so that they might do the actions portrayed on their screens. They think that watching these kinds of movies will increase the chance of people getting into fights, believing that they can do as their favorite character would do in the movies they see. The biggest danger would be if the younger generations see these movies frequently and decide to behave like that; there will be a future generation who would believe and relate to only movies, making them irrational and indecisive.
The other half of people disagree with the claims made by the people mentioned in the paragraph above, stating that research shows that the more violent movies or games consumed, the lower the chance of the people consuming them doing them in real life. It states that the more frequently someone sees that kind of violence that they are to try to avoid the situations leading to that extremity of violence.
Personally, I am with the people who say that the violence portrayed will cause the development of violent tendencies, especially in the younger generations, like kids trying to fight as the character they saw on television at night.
So in my opinion, parents should play a major role in movie night planning, as these types of movies can hinder their child's development, which can lead them to drop out of school and such.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that fictional violence might lead to irrational behavior, the explanation lacks depth and specific examples. The counter-argument regarding the 'cathartic' effect of media is mentioned but not fully explored or supported with evidence. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations or hypothetical scenarios, ensuring that the link between media consumption and real-world behavior is more thoroughly analyzed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'The other half of people' and 'So in my opinion' are functional but lack variety. Additionally, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. To improve, try using a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'conversely,' 'furthermore,' 'consequently') to create a smoother flow between your ideas and to better connect the different sections of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'fictional violence,' 'consumed,' and 'hinder.' However, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and occasionally imprecise, such as using 'do them' to refer to violent acts. There is also a lack of less common lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. For example, instead of 'do the actions,' you could use 'emulate the behavior' or 'replicate the actions.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the more violent movies or games consumed, the lower the chance of the people consuming them doing them in real life,' which is syntactically awkward. There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrasing. To improve, focus on ensuring your complex sentences are grammatically sound and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses.
