Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that the violence portrayed through entertainment sources is harmless whereas others disagree and think that it promotes violent behaviour. Both these views will be further discussed before stating my opinion.

Nowadays, people love to indulge in entertainment programs like games, movies or shows that are filled with violent and action content. It brings a sense of adventure boosting up their levels of adrenaline. For example, youngsters prefer to watch shows like the Fighting Mania or movies involving fighting scenes like Marvel films over romantic or comic ones. It is usually considered as an escape from their monotonous life and is just a part of fiction rather than a real life situation. Also, such things have been casted since many years yet most viewers do not become violent fighters.

However, it is argued that constant exposure to to violence normalizes aggression among children and teenagers. Young viewers often lack the maturity to differentiate the fictional world to the real one and may imitate the scenes the see. Studies show that the reason behind a child's misbehaviour or violent mindset can often be due the content provided to them. Moreover, when fights and harmful activities are justified or considered as heroic, it can influence the developing minds and lead them to believe that violence is the only way to solve problems.

Hence, in my opinion though adults can consume violent content in a mature sense, its negative impact on children and youngsters cannot be ignored. I believe that census board should include an age ratings and parents should always monitor what their kids watch. In conclusion, although fictional violence portrayed on television is harmless entertainment for some, it has possible influence and encouragement for violent behavior for others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You have discussed both perspectives—the view that violence is harmless entertainment and the view that it encourages aggression—and provided a clear personal opinion in the final paragraph. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of adrenaline and the lack of maturity in children. However, the development of the first body paragraph is slightly limited; while you mention 'Fighting Mania', more specific analysis or a broader range of examples would strengthen the argument. Overall, the position is consistent throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to link your points effectively. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to move beyond basic linking words. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. The structure is coherent and supports the overall argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'monotonous life', 'normalizes aggression', and 'developing minds' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'casted' (the past participle of cast is 'cast') and 'differentiate the fictional world to the real one' (should be 'from'). You also have a few minor errors in prepositions and word choice, such as 'due the content' (missing 'to'). Despite these slips, the vocabulary is adequate to convey your meaning clearly and shows an attempt to use more academic language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several error-free sentences, and your control of grammar is generally good. However, there are some persistent errors, such as 'to to violence' (repetition), 'the scenes the see' (missing 'that'), and 'census board' (likely meant 'censorship board'). These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for small omissions and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement and correct word forms.
