Student answer (Band 5.5)

On the one hand, some people claim that fictional violence portrayed on television is harmless entertainment. And fictional violence is not detrimental because the viewers can distinguish between fantasy and reality. They argue that watching action movie and crime drama is simply a form escapism and stress relief. Furthermore, adults are capable of understanding that what they see on screen is scripted and acted. A prime example is superhero movies, where viewer simply enjoy the show without attempting to copy the action in real life.

On the other hand, there is growing consensus that exposure to violence on television contributes to aggressive behavior, particularly among children. Children are impressionable and may imitate what content they see on screen. And they may think violence is a way to solve problems. Researches show link between watching violent show and aggressive behavior among children.

So, the adults may not be affected, but children lack the maturity to differentiate between fiction and reality. Therefore, stricter regulation on violent content and parental guidance is essential.

In conclusion, some people argue that violence on screen is harmless entertainment. But I believe that it has grave effects, especially on young people. So, it is the responsibility of broad casters to limit the scenes that are unnecessary and made special adults cinemas where children under 18 are not allowed. And parents should also keep the record what their child is watching online or in movies. In the modern world, young people also have their favorite celebrities or idols. And if there favorite actor do a violent character in movie they might get inspired from it. Which is a big issue. It must be addressed carefully by the authorities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the distinction between adult and child viewers and the role of parental guidance. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the argument regarding the influence of celebrities in the conclusion is a new point that should have been integrated into the body paragraphs for better flow. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. Overall, it covers all parts of the task adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the use of 'And' at the start of sentences is repetitive and informal. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the final paragraph introduces new information that disrupts the logical flow of the conclusion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that new points are not introduced in the conclusion would improve the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'detrimental', 'escapism', and 'impressionable'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'broad casters' (broadcasters), 'made special adults cinemas' (created age-restricted screenings), and 'keep the record' (monitor). The range is sufficient to communicate, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is usually clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('watching action movie'), subject-verb agreement issues ('if there favorite actor do'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, such as 'Which is a big issue.' These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on article usage, pluralization, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
