Student answer (Band 5.5)

Fictional Violence portrayed on television can be categorized in terms of harmless entertainment while on the other hand it encourages the people for violent behavior. Both sides have its own advantages and disadvantages.

Firstly if it is considered as harmless entertainment , many people take it as a fun and enjoyed a lot of scenes that are shown in the tv dramas and in movies. In movies or dramas they are expressing their anger through some actions and people enjoyed those actions and take it is as a funniest scene.

While on the other hand , some people believe that it encourages the violent behavior. Teenagers' nowadays watching movies dramas also impact their life in such a way that they learnt those actions that are shown in the movies or dramas. They copy them and in some cases they perform the same action they learnt. In this way, It harms the youth and people of the country badly.

However in my opinion , violence portrayed on television can harm the society and encourages violent behavior. To some extent, the violence scene should be cut off from the movies or dramas so that children and the youth can be safe.

In conclusion, some people enjoyed and take it as a fun but in some cases it not beneficial for the youth. Because they are young and teenagers and have to learn a lot of things. So in this case it is better to gave the the pure environment so they can perform well and be successful in their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the explanation of why people find violence 'harmless' is repetitive and lacks depth, focusing only on 'fun' and 'anger'. The second body paragraph attempts to explain the negative impact on teenagers but remains somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you need to provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the psychological or social consequences of media violence. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments require more elaboration to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'While on the other hand' and 'In conclusion' are used, but there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within sentences. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, making the flow feel slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms such as 'fun', 'badly', and 'things'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'encourages the people for violent behavior' and 'the violence scene should be cut off'. To improve, you should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'desensitization', 'imitation', or 'societal implications'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more nuanced expressions will help you convey your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Both sides have its own advantages' (subject-verb agreement), 'Teenagers' nowadays watching movies dramas' (missing verb/preposition), and 'it is better to gave the the pure environment' (incorrect verb form and repetition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would be a great starting point for improvement.
