Student answer (Band 5.5)

The world is developing day by day as well as internet, tv, mobile phones etc every electric devices are now on everyones hand. We enjoy watching different genres of entertainment on tv like romantic, thriller, action and so on.

Some people think that the fictional violence portrayed on television is harmless entertainment . While others disagree and think that it encourages violent behaviour. I think this statement has a controvirsial opinion. I am agreed with this statement in some cases. I am showing my point of view in forthcoming paragraphs.

Most of us enjoy watching action movies. However most of time we are on heroes site as well as we want hero to attack the villain. In contrast, while watching violence scenes there are sometimes children also with us watch movies with us and they don't know what is right and what is wrong. They think that as heroes are doing this that means they also can do this violence to others.

However, I think charity begins at home, so we all should try our best to convince our child what is wrong and what is wrong. We should teach them that we are watching these scenes only for entertainment nothing else. We should bend over backwards to assist our child the right way to behave with others and to be humble.

On the other hand, teaching children is not a piece of cake so we should stop watching fictional violence scenes on tv infront of our children rather we should watch educational videos with them so that they can learn many things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention that children might imitate heroes, the argument lacks depth and specific examples. The position is clear, but the discussion of the 'harmless entertainment' perspective is underdeveloped compared to the 'encourages violence' perspective. To improve, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal weight and provide more concrete reasoning or real-world examples to support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In contrast', and 'On the other hand' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the opening paragraph is a bit disjointed with short, simple sentences. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., using 'this phenomenon' instead of repeating 'violence') would help the text feel more cohesive and professional.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks variety. You use basic terms like 'good' or 'bad' implicitly, and there are some awkward collocations, such as 'heroes site' (likely meaning 'side') and 'controvirsial opinion' (spelling error). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'imitation', 'aggression', 'media influence', or 'societal impact', rather than relying on simple phrases like 'right and wrong'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as 'every electric devices are now on everyones hand' (subject-verb agreement and missing apostrophe) and 'I am agreed with this statement' (incorrect passive voice usage). Additionally, punctuation is sometimes missing or incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tenses.
