Student answer (Band 5.5)

Debate persists regarding the impact of fictional violence in television shows and movies. While some views argued that it is just a form of entertainment and it helps to escape from daily tedious routine. Whereas, others argue that it is harmful for youth because they imitate this behavior as watch it consistently. In my perspective no doubt this is good way of relaxation but it has numerous negative impacts on young children.

On one hand, proponents of this view that it is not harmful argue that audiences can clearly distinguish between scripted fiction and real life. For mature viewers action heavy dramas and thrillers serves as a therapeutic outlet which unwind their minds after a hectic daily routine of workplace. Furthermore, it is believed that these narrative stories are just made to show good over evil rather than to promote real-world crime.

In addition, children and teenagers often mimic the behavior of their favorite heroes they admire on screen. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, which is a positive aspect. However, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly in the final sentence. Furthermore, the word count is 232 words, which falls below the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the conclusion is left unfinished and the arguments lack the depth required for a higher band. To improve, you must ensure you complete your thoughts and meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'On one hand', 'Conversely', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is interrupted by the incomplete final sentence, which leaves the conclusion hanging. Additionally, some transitions are slightly mechanical. To improve, focus on ensuring that your paragraphs are balanced and that your concluding paragraph provides a clear, finished summary of your main points rather than cutting off mid-sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'therapeutic outlet', 'normalizes', and 'aggression'. However, there are some inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'viewed aggression .as an acceptable solution' and 'regulated in teenagers'. There are also minor spelling errors like 'repitetive'. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise collocations and ensure your vocabulary is used in the correct context. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated academic synonyms will also help elevate your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. For example, 'While some views argued that it is just a form of entertainment and it helps to escape' contains a fragment issue, and 'when a children watch' shows a subject-verb agreement error. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing components.
