Student answer (Band 6.5)
Opinions differ regarding the impact of the fictional violence portrayed on television. While some individuals think that it is harmless entertainment, I largely believe that it can encourage violent behavior. Examining both perspectives provide a clearer understanding of the matter.
The depiction of violent behavior in the media can be a good source of entertainment especially to individuals who have interest in such kinds of media. For example, while other types of entertainment such as the cartoons can be boring to adults, violent content is entertaining especially to people who like action movies and it has nothing to do with the behavior change.
Nevertheless, it would be unrealistic to overlook the fact that the information absorbed daily can influence a person's character by increasing aggression. Essentially, Young viewers may imitate the behavior of fictional characters, particularly when those characters are portrayed as powerful or successful. For instance, if a child who does not understand English watches a cartoon animation displayed in English, they may internalize aggressive behavior by imitating.
Furthermore, excessive exposure to fictional violence may reduce empathy and make individuals less sensitive to the suffering of others. For example, researchers have found an association between the behavior of several criminals and their interest in fictional violent movies online, which clearly illustrates the relationship between the reality and information absorbed by human brain.
To conclude, although the exposure to violent movies can be entertaining, I strongly believe that it can encourage violent behavior by reducing empathy and increasing aggression among the viewers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument regarding 'cartoons' in the second paragraph is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. The third paragraph provides a more logical link between fictional violence and real-world aggression. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on brief examples. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'Nevertheless', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, the transition in the second paragraph could be smoother to better connect the idea of entertainment with the lack of behavioral change. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'internalize', 'aggression', and 'empathy'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'have interest in such kinds of media' (should be 'an interest') and 'behavior change' (should be 'behavioral change'). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'Examining both perspectives provide' should be 'provides' (subject-verb agreement), and 'the information absorbed' is slightly awkward. There are also minor issues with articles, such as 'the cartoons' (should be 'cartoons' in a general sense). Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim for more error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage.
