Student answer (Band 5.5)

In todays rapidly evolving world topic related to fictional violence portrayed on television is harmless entertainment is a controversial. Some people oppose and think that it encourage violence. I believe the motive of fictional movies is not to harm and provide entertainment to their audience. I will share both perspective and give broaden analysis.

First of all, television and other entertainment platforms like, social media and many online channels are part and parcel of our daily lives. People use it for entertainment and feel relaxed after a tiring day at work. Violent movies includes crime, suspense and thrill are all part of entertainment. It depends on people how they consume it. For example, many young generation like content related to suspense and crime, if it removes from videos there is no mean to watch movies. Media industry might loose their viewers which effect negatively on their profits and and many channels might face financial crisis and permanent closer of media industry.

On other hand, people think fictional violence content is harmful for people because individual try to adapt this behavior by getting influenced with the character displayed negatively. Many studies shows that children who watched violent movies and television programs, later displayed violent behavior in their life. I firmly believe that it depends on individual personality and how they misunderstood the concept.

When comparing both view points. I think balance approach is more suitable for preventing generations to become violent and addictive with the violent personality trait. There is no doubt that the motive of television programs is to provide entertainment but we cannot ignore the potential risk of violent behavior. Parents need to limit the screen time for their children and keep eye on what they are watching. Adults can understand the differentiate between fiction and reality but children lacks the ability to do so. Ultimately, it is not only the responsibility of content creator but also society and parents make sure the media consumption is only for entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact on the media industry and the developmental needs of children. However, some arguments are under-developed; for instance, the claim that removing suspense would lead to the 'permanent closer of media industry' is an over-generalisation that lacks logical depth. The position is consistent throughout, but the development of the 'balanced approach' in the conclusion could be more specific to ensure a higher level of task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'On other hand', and 'When comparing both view points', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate (e.g., 'On other hand' missing the article 'the'). Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the pronoun 'it' in the second paragraph, which does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different perspectives.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'fictional violence', 'media consumption', and 'potential risk'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'permanent closer' (instead of 'closure'), 'broaden analysis' (instead of 'broad analysis'), and 'if it removes' (instead of 'if it were removed'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score as they show a lack of precision in more complex lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('it encourage', 'many studies shows', 'children lacks') and article usage ('the media industry', 'a balanced approach'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on basic agreement rules and proofreading for small grammatical slips.
