Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the prompt effectively. The task asks for a discussion on fictional violence on television, but the essay focuses on the general advantages and disadvantages of television itself. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which severely limits the development of any ideas. The position is unclear, and the arguments provided do not relate to the specific topic of violent content. Consequently, the response is largely off-topic and fails to meet the basic requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into very short, simplistic paragraphs. While there is an attempt at logical progression using transition words like 'First of all' and 'Second of all', the ideas themselves lack coherence because they do not support the prompt. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively structure the argument, as the content within the paragraphs is disjointed and lacks a clear thematic focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'frictional' instead of 'fictional' and 'edification' used incorrectly to describe the utility of television. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, relying on basic, repetitive phrasing like 'television is invention of the new modern thing'. The errors in word formation and collocation are frequent and occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'television use for the information' and 'they use for the watching'. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing around commas and periods. The attempt at complex structures is largely unsuccessful, leading to fragmented or confusing sentences. The high frequency of basic grammatical errors makes the text difficult to read and significantly impacts the clarity of the communication.
