Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially. While it touches on the topic of television and media, it fails to focus specifically on the core issue of 'fictional violence' and whether it is harmless or encourages violent behavior. Much of the content discusses general benefits of television, such as sports and news, which is irrelevant to the specific question asked. The student's own opinion is not clearly stated or developed throughout the essay. The ideas are largely disconnected from the prompt, leading to a lack of focus and insufficient development of the required arguments regarding the impact of violent media.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Paragraphs are not well-structured, and the transition between ideas is often abrupt or confusing. For example, the shift from discussing sports channels to video games and then to AI feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, making the text difficult to follow. The use of referencing is often unclear, and the overall organization does not support a coherent argument. The essay reads more like a collection of loosely related sentences rather than a structured discussion of the two views presented in the prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic or inappropriate word choices. There are frequent errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'learning machine' instead of 'educational tool' and 'humble aspect's' which does not fit the context. The student struggles to express complex ideas due to a restricted range of vocabulary. Furthermore, there are numerous errors in the use of apostrophes (e.g., 'show's', 'day's', 'sport's', 'drama's', 'one's'), which indicates a lack of control over basic punctuation and word forms. The vocabulary is insufficient to convey the intended meaning with precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. Sentence structures are simple and often fragmented, such as 'The fictional play's important role in movies...' which lacks a main verb. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and punctuation. The misuse of apostrophes is pervasive throughout the text. While there is an attempt to use complex ideas, the lack of grammatical control means that the meaning is frequently obscured. The majority of sentences contain errors, and the range of structures is very limited, preventing the expression of more nuanced arguments.
