Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on fictional violence and offering a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited due to the under-length nature of the essay, containing only 201 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. While the position is generally clear, the supporting arguments, such as the mention of West London Universities, lack sufficient elaboration and depth. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning with the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a logical structure. However, paragraphing and cohesive devices are often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'To commence with' and 'Agumalating aforementioned' are awkward and unnatural. Referencing and logical progression are weak, with abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas, which reflects the characteristics of a Band 5.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently inaccurate. The student uses basic vocabulary alongside noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as 'fictional violence are', 'finely mature', 'criminal crime shows', and 'minimisied'. Spelling errors and incorrect word formations impede communication at times. The use of uncommon lexical items is attempted but largely unsuccessful, placing this performance firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but complex structures are frequently faulty, such as 'While other individual believe that fictional violence are merely harmful , however , some argue that it may impact...'. There are frequent errors in article usage, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, which can cause difficulty for the reader and align with a Band 5.0 score.
