Student answer (Band 5.5)

In an era characterized by rapid social and technological change, entertainment has become a matter of increasing concern in contemporary society. Entertainment brings numerous lessons and pleasure to the viewers, however, it should be noted that what kind of fiction television is providing. Some people believe that fictional violence portrayed on TV is harmless, on the other hand some reflect that it encourages violent behavior. In this essay both issues will be discussed and potential opinion will be given.

On one hand, some people think that fictional violence can be watchable, in some cases entertainment industry try to provide a story where certain kind of fiction violence is presented. It is a need of story script to show diverse kind of violence which is acceptable. For instance, in film scene police caught the thief and during investigation they had to be violent, to teach the viewer the punishments of attempting crime. that kind of examples are watchable.

On the other hand, individuals believes that it is obligatory for TV industry to not show any kind of violence because it can cause negative effect on viewers. For instance, nowadays media industry is showcasing different scenes of abuse where several characters of the show were seen physically abusing the other character. It will create the negative image in viewers mind and also give idea how to harm others. For instance, if in kids TV shows bullying, teasing and doing violence to other will present then viewers kid perceive that it is acceptable to do violence or being abused.

In conclusion, i acknowledged that there are certain requirements of characters to perform in play which they need to fulfill, however, in my opinion it is harmful for all the viewer, because it provides idea and way to hurt other. Although, these scenes can give image to viewers that doing violence is right. Entrainment industry should limit their scenes to certain area where the person who is watching will not be effected. Moreover, children show's should be monitored because they are not mature enough to deal what is wrong and write, therefore in kid shows such kind of fiction violence would be banned.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on fictional violence on television and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the argument that violence is needed for a story script is supported by a somewhat weak example of a police officer catching a thief, which lacks elaboration. Similarly, the counter-argument discusses abuse and bullying but remains somewhat generalized without strong supporting evidence. Because all parts of the prompt are addressed and a position is clear, the response aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs addressing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'that kind of examples are watchable' contains referencing errors, and sentence boundaries are occasionally blurred by punctuation issues (e.g., comma splices). Overall, the text has a coherent arrangement and progression, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary society', 'entertainment industry', and 'obligatory'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'fictional violence can be watchable' instead of acceptable, and 'give idea how to harm others' instead of providing ideas on how to harm others. Additionally, there are minor spelling and grammatical form inaccuracies like 'Entrainment industry' instead of entertainment. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, grammatical errors and punctuation issues occur frequently throughout the essay. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals believes'), missing articles ('in kids TV shows'), and run-on sentences or comma splices (e.g., 'In conclusion, i acknowledged that there are certain requirements...'). While the meaning remains clear and communication is rarely impeded, the frequency of grammatical errors prevents the response from reaching a Band 6.5 or 7.0, aligning it with Band 5.5.
