Student answer (Band 6.0)

The fictional violence that we see on televisons or in games and through other visual sources can be just a source of harmless entertainment or this could also result in violent behaviors in people. I believe both of them can be the possibilities but it depends on some major aspects.

Fictional scenes that are potrayed in dramas, movies or in games are just mere fiction and has nothing to do with the reality. The audience knows that they are watching fake scenes that are not possible in real world. They watch it for fun and entertainment. For example some poeple love to watch fictional movies in their leisure time in order to relax their mind and to escape from the real world for sometime. So they watch them just for entertainment and dont think of them twice.

Furthermore, Fictional violence does not automatically cause violent behaviour, but repeated exposure can influence attitudes, particularly among children. For example if a child plays violent games for several hours his brain might not be able to distinguish between the real world and the game world. He would try to practice the same things in reality with his siblings or friends unaware of the consequences.Older people may also get affected by watching too much violence. As a result their brains may get over simulated by the scenes that create anger and behavioural issues in them.

In my opinion, The fictional violence shown on televisions itself do not effect the behavior of the particular person, it is the excessive use that causes the problem. The outcomes are dependent on the age of a person and the frequency of usage.

Overall,i believe the on-screen violence can be just a tool for entertainment and it can also have bad effects on the behavior depending on how we use it. So we should use media in a balanced way and children should be kept away from the violent scenes because their brains are not fully developed and they may imply those on others without having the knowledge of the outcomes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that fictional violence is harmless entertainment and that it encourages violent behaviour—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained consistently throughout the essay, including in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as how children might imitate games or how adults use media to relax. For instance, the distinction made between casual adult viewers and vulnerable children adds depth to the argumentation. While some arguments could be explored in even greater detail to reach the highest bands, the response thoroughly covers the prompt requirements, meeting all the criteria for a solid Band 7.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction, moving to the view that violence is harmless, then to the counter-argument about behavioural impacts, and concluding with a synthesis and personal opinion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Furthermore', 'For example', and 'As a result', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the flow of ideas. While the referencing is generally clear, occasional awkward phrasing in the cohesive links prevents the essay from reaching higher coherence descriptors. Overall, the structural progression is easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'distinguish', 'consequences', 'over-stimulated', and 'frequency of usage'. However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'potrayed' (misspelled as well) and 'imply those on others' instead of 'apply those behaviours'. Spelling mistakes like 'televisons', 'potrayed', 'poeple', and 'dont' detract from the lexical score. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey complex thoughts about media influence. This aligns well with the criteria for Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional-like constructions, such as 'If a child plays violent games for several hours his brain might not be able to distinguish...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including missing commas, run-on sentences, and minor subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The fictional violence shown on televisions itself do not effect'). Articles are occasionally misused, and plurals/singulars do not always align. Although these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 7.0. A Band 6.0 accurately reflects this mix of structures and persistent minor errors.
