Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is an ongoing debate about whether fictional violence shown on television is harmless or it promotes aggressive behaviour. This essay will discuss both the views and explains why I believe that there should be a balanced approach in handling such scenarios.
There are several reasons why people should be restrcited to watch such violent programmes. One reasonable factor is, young generation tries to imitate the actions performed by stuntsmen in the shows. For instance, children tries to copy the steps done by boxers without safety equipments and as a result they may cause injury to themselves or the others. Other important factor is nowadays, children spend signigicant amount of time watching television and they find violence as a source of entertainment which may further leads to aggressive behaviour in children. Younger generation is highly influenced by the content shown on television which limits their abilities to decide whether it is worth watching to give any useful information.
The reasons some people believe watching fictional violence is harmless are that, watching is one's personal choice and viewers can decide what to watch. For eample, adutls may watch boxing championships because they enjoy the competition. Secondly, all the major violent actions are performed with proper equipments and all the safety measures are taken care of.
In conclusion, I believe that there should be age restrictions on such programs and
unsuitable content should be restricted for children. For instance, Violent programs acan carry age ratings and warnings. Parents should keep an eye on the content their children are watching.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on fictional television violence and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a position in the introduction and maintains it through to the conclusion. The arguments presented are relevant, noting imitation by children and personal choice for adults. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the impact on younger generations. For instance, the points about children spending significant time watching television and being highly influenced overlap in substance. While the ideas are relevant, they lack deep extension and support, placing the response comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion within sentences and paragraphs is occasionally faulty and mechanical. For example, the transition 'Other important factor is nowadays' is unnatural, and referencing is sometimes imprecise, as seen with 'such violent programmes' and 'such programs' without robust linking. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be repetitive or awkward. Overall, the logical progression is evident, but the execution of cohesive ties points to a Band 6 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'imitate', 'aggressive behaviour', and 'age restrictions'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors ('restrcited', 'equipments' - which is uncountable, 'signigicant', 'adutls', 'acan') and inappropriate word choices like 'stuntsmen' instead of 'stuntmen'. These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'There are several reasons why people should be restrcited to watch such violent programmes.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('without safety equipments'), subject-verb agreement issues ('children tries'), and incorrect comma placement. Complex structures are attempted but often result in structural slips. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded, supporting a Band 5.5 or Band 6 score. A Band 6 is awarded as simple and complex forms are mixed and meaning remains accessible.
