Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing whether fictional violence is harmless or encourages aggressive behavior, and the student provides a personal opinion. However, the essay is incomplete, abruptly cutting off at the end, and fails to meet the minimum word count of 250 words, standing at 228 words. This penalises the overall task achievement score. While the main ideas—such as maturity, imitation, and desensitisation—are introduced, they are under-developed due to the truncated conclusion and limited elaboration in the body paragraphs. For instance, the phrase 'crimes insired by action movies behaviour' is grammatically broken and lacks the necessary extension expected for higher band levels. To improve, ensure you fully develop every argument with complete sentences and reach the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates an attempt at logical organisation with a traditional introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief concluding sentence. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as proponents' views versus opposing arguments. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. Transition phrases like 'On the other hand' and 'Firstly' are used, but the progression within paragraphs is disrupted by awkward referencing and incomplete sentences. For example, 'Consequently, as a result of it become normal for citizens' contains repetitive and confusing cohesive ties. Furthermore, the abrupt ending without a proper summary negatively impacts the overall flow and structural coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words such as 'detrimental', 'desensitisation', and 'consequences'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'ans' instead of 'and', 'trigers' instead of 'triggers', 'nd' instead of 'and', 'knws', 'intersted', 'outweight', 'entertainmet', 'insired', 'Additinally', and 'youger'. These errors reflect a lack of proofreading and impede communication in places. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, the high frequency of spelling and word-form inaccuracies restricts the lexical score to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'In recent years, it is widely debated that...' and 'although fictional violence seen harmless...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Notable errors include missing verbs or incorrect verb forms ('fictional violence seen harmless', 'it become normal'), preposition errors ('impact on children' vs 'impact of'), and unfinished sentence structures at the very end of the essay ('I believe it has more...'). The proportion of error-free sentences is relatively low, placing this performance in the Band 5 category.
