Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to discuss both views regarding fictional television violence and provides a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the task is only partially addressed due to underdeveloped ideas and logical gaps. For instance, the argument that fictional violence is useful for youngsters because it teaches them how to deal with dangers is not clearly substantiated. Furthermore, the response is 15 words short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement score. The position is stated, but the support lacks sufficient extension and clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing statements. While basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Firstly' are used, referencing is often unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'watching their violence'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is faulty, making it sometimes difficult to follow the writer's line of thought.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'actors performed their violent characters' and 'banish such types of characters on digital screem'. Less common vocabulary is attempted but often used incorrectly, like 'creats a sense of humour' instead of providing light relief. Spelling errors also occur, which restricts the lexical range to a minimally adequate level for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but these attempts are frequently faulty and lead to frequent grammatical errors. Examples include tense confusion, missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'which do not know how to use it' and 'laws who perform it'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are poorly controlled, resulting in frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
