Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on fictional television violence and providing a personal opinion in the conclusion and body. Ideas are introduced, such as the stress-relief benefits of comedies and the potential for behavioral replication among adolescents. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or lack logical support. For instance, the reference to the survey by 'WCR- World Crime Rate' is incomplete and trails off, and the mention of the reality show 'Bigg Boss' is left as an isolated example rather than fully explained within the argument. The student's position is clear throughout, but the development of supporting arguments prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is adequately addressed in line with Band 6 requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs discussing both views, the personal opinion, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'By contrast', though some referencing is mechanical or slightly imprecise (e.g., 'proponents of this theory' when no specific theory has been formally introduced prior). Paragraph progression is generally logical, moving from the benefits of fictional violence to the counter-arguments and finally the author's stance. However, sentence structure fragmentation in places, such as the trailing sentence ending with a comma after 'free fictional documentories,', slightly disrupts the flow and cohesion. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the academic prompt, including terms like 'significance', 'alleviate', 'cognizence', 'nurtuer', and 'deleterious ramifications'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'todays's', 'entertaiment', 'substatial', 'stremed', 'violant', 'documentories', 'offends', 'faourite', 'enertainment', and 'anxitey'. While these errors do not severely impede communication because the context remains understandable, they are frequent enough to prevent the lexical score from rising into the higher bands. The student shows an adequate range for the task and attempts less common items, matching the profile for a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'as it enables humans to spend their time productively' and 'although the fictional content plays an indispensable role'. There are, however, several grammatical errors and punctuation flaws, including missing articles ('the organisation called the WCR'), incorrect prepositions, and incomplete sentences that trail off without a full stop. Punctuation errors are also noticeable, such as double periods ('..') and apostrophe misuse ('todays's'). Despite these issues, the complex structures attempted show ambition, and the errors rarely impede overall communication, placing this firmly at Band 6.
