Student answer (Band 5.5)

From an exceedingly early age of time, it has been known that humans are visual creatures. It is in the nature of humans to imitate things from which they tend to take inspirations from.

Since every single human being is extraordinary and distinct from the other, their way of perceiving and accumulating circumstances is also different.

Throughout countless years, fictional characters seen and acknowleged through television, comics, novels have made their way through people's hearts and minds.

Moreover, whenever a character showcases any type of emotion, some viewers get more intrigued than others. Speaking of fictional violence, it is an act that is widely considered a form of entertainment by many. Because if it occurs between two cartoon characters then its considered fun and enjoyable. However, many might debate that it is actually creating an image to children and even some adults that undertaking violence with one another is humane, and shall be considered natural.

While fictinal violence also teaches how to deal with perpetrators when necessary, it creates a depiction that abuse or violence is normal.

From my perspective, I'd consider showing fictional violence with a certain extent only if there is a moral lesson or consequences for that action is shown afterwards. This way it will muddle with certain people's minds and beliefs.

It is important for people to deal with reality and fiction proper

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on fictional violence—that it is harmless entertainment versus that it encourages violent behavior—and includes the writer's own perspective. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the final body paragraphs where the reasoning feels rushed and ambiguous, such as stating that showing fictional violence will 'muddle with certain people's minds and beliefs.' Furthermore, the response falls short of the word count requirement, containing only 227 words against the minimum of 250. This negative impact on length prevents the task from being fully explored, restricting the overall score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates a basic attempt at logical organisation, with an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs addressing the prompt, and a concluding remark. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. For instance, the transition between the discussion of cartoon violence in the second paragraph and the introduction of real-world perpetrators in the third paragraph is abrupt. Paragraphing is used, but the paragraphs are somewhat short and choppy, reflecting the overall brevity of the piece. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'While', but referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun 'it' in 'its considered fun and enjoyable' where the antecedent is ambiguous. Overall cohesion is mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'exceedingly', 'perceiving', and 'accumulating circumstances', but some word choices are unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'early age of time' and 'undertaking violence'. There are also spelling errors like 'fictinal' and 'acknowleged'. Despite these flaws, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the writer's basic message, and the lexical range is adequate for a minimal task response. Words like 'intrudiged' and 'perpetrators' show an attempt to use a wider variety of terms, though precision is occasionally lacking.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Since every single human being is extraordinary and distinct from the other, their way of perceiving and accumulating circumstances is also different.' There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including missing prepositions and punctuation issues in the final sentence ('It is important for people to deal with reality and fiction proper'). Additionally, the phrase 'take inspirations from' contains a redundancy. However, the errors do not severely impede communication, and the writer demonstrates some control over complex structures.
