Student answer (Band 5.5)
Task 2 – Both Views + Opinion
Many individuals argue that television shows and movies which contain violent actions put an impact on someone’s behaviour, while others say this type of content creates violent nature. In my opinion, I believe that watching violence do promote aggressive behavior, while non-fictional inspiring programs motivates youth.
On one hand, many consider that watching violent television programs makes people angry and impatient. To support this, people adapt their personality traits, which they watch or listen. When someone spend more time to watch movie showing fight scenes and offensive language, they start acting like the fictional characters unconsciously. As a result, few youngsters start picking a fight with their peers at school.
On the other hand, there is vast amount of shows are broadcasting on television, which are inspired from real life stories and those can be benefit for pupils to teach them various skills and motivates them to work hard to succeed. For example, movie like “Chhichhore” in India, it teachs never give up even in hard time.
Finally, in my opinion, human brain adopt social skills and beliefs by watching and listening fictional violence telecasting is not harmful entertainment. However, educational programs such as quiz competitions, motivational podcasts are various options for entertainment as well as promoting skills.
In conclusion, inspirational and non-fictional shows should be portrayed on television to reduce aggressive behavior and enhance behaviour traits such as hard-work, discipline and being kind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views and offering an opinion, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on violent shows leading to aggressive behavior relies on general statements like 'they start acting like the fictional characters unconsciously' without being fully extended. Furthermore, your opinion shifts slightly in the conclusion and body paragraphs regarding what constitutes harmful entertainment. Importantly, the response falls short of the required word count, as it contains only 241 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. To improve, you need to write more extensively and ensure every main point is supported with detailed explanations and fully elaborated examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some organizational structure with basic paragraphing and clear transitional phrases such as 'On one hand,' and 'On the other hand,' which help guide the reader through the text. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is sometimes disrupted by awkward transitions, such as starting the final body paragraph with 'Finally, in my opinion,' followed by a confusing statement. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or inaccurate, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the ambiguous pronoun usage in 'which they watch or listen.' To reach a higher level, you should ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one and that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey basic ideas about television and behavior. There are noticeable lexical errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'put an impact on someone’s behaviour' instead of 'have an impact on,' and 'vast amount of shows are broadcasting' instead of 'vast number of shows are broadcast.' You also attempt some less common vocabulary, but these attempts contain inaccuracies that can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve your lexical score, focus on using precise word choices, correct collocations, and wider thematic vocabulary related to media and psychology without relying on repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your writing demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simpler patterns with frequent errors in complex constructions. There are frequent mistakes in subject-verb agreement and verb forms, such as 'movie like 'Chhichhore' in India, it teachs never give up,' and tense inconsistencies like 'watching fictional violence telecasting is not harmful entertainment.' Additionally, you make errors with plurals and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'when someone spend more time to watch movie.' These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, practice forming accurate complex sentences and check your work carefully for basic agreement and tense errors.
