Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people think that the fictional violence portrayed on television is harmless entertainment. Others disagree and think that it encourages violent behaviour. In this essay, I will discuss the positive and negative impacts of the fictional violence portrayed on television.

The growing influence of the fictional portrayed on television has sparked various debates. This issue is particularly significant because of its impact on our lives. One of the key benefit of it is that people are enjoying. They are spending alot of time while watching which is good for them. It makes them stress free. Various studies have shown that people seem stress free. Another advantage is that it plays an important role in children lives too.

On the other hand, I believe that fictional violence is not good people are wasting their time while watching it. They are learning bad things which is not good for their mental health . As shown in studies, when we watch these things it give a bad impact on our lives such as trauma, exhaustion and heart diseases. Other major reason is that children are not doing study because they love to spend time on television while watching fictional violence. They are doing fights with their friends and arguing teacher which lead to bad behaviour.

In conclusion, it provides both significant advantages and notable challenges. Moving forward, it is important to balance the use of fictional violence on television whether it is good or bad to maximize its benefits and minimize its drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

First, please note that the response contains 228 words, which means the length requirement of a minimum of 250 words is not met. Furthermore, 22 words copied directly from the task prompt were excluded from the count. Regarding task response, the essay addresses the prompt only partially. While the introduction mentions both views, the discussion remains superficial and lacks sufficient support. For instance, the argument that television violence is beneficial because 'people are enjoying' and 'spending alot of time while watching which is good for them' is underdeveloped and repetitive. The student's position is stated, but the ideas are limited, overly generalized, and lack concrete examples from personal knowledge or experience, restricting the response to the current band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text displays some organization with a clear paragraph structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases like 'Another advantage is that' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, for example in sentences starting abruptly with 'As shown in studies, when we watch these things...'. While paragraphing is attempted, the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs needs significant strengthening to achieve a smoother, more coherent progression of arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'significant', 'influence', and 'exhaustion', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include phrasing like 'the fictional portrayed on television' instead of 'portrayals of fictional violence', 'One of the key benefit' where plurals are mismatched, and 'doing fights with their friends and arguing teacher'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'alot' and missing articles or prepositions, indicating a restricted range that requires further development and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited range of grammatical structures, primarily relying on simple sentences alongside a few clumsy attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that can cause difficulty for the reader, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children lives' and 'argument teacher'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward clause constructions like 'whether it is good or bad to maximize its benefits'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, with run-on ideas and missing commas. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with improved structural accuracy.
