Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While it attempts to discuss both views regarding television violence and provides a personal perspective, the development of ideas remains very limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument about children imitating fights is mentioned briefly without clear extension or concrete support. Furthermore, the response trails off abruptly at the end, leaving the conclusion unfinished. Additionally, the writing fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, falling short by 10 words. To improve towards higher bands, you must fully develop each viewpoint with well-supported arguments, ensure your conclusion is complete, and write at least the minimum required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay shows some basic organisation, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is poorly handled; the main body is lumped into a single block of text that lacks clear logical breaks between discussing the harmful effects, the relaxing benefits, and the personal opinion. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inaccurately, such as the awkward transitions "looking at voilence point of view" and "on other hand". Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments. To achieve a higher band, you need to structure your essay into distinct, logical paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion) and use a wider variety of cohesive ties more accurately to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice throughout the text, such as "peoples" instead of "people", "souce" instead of "source", "voilence" instead of "violence", and "sceans" instead of "scenes". The student attempts some less common vocabulary like "enhance mental and physical peace", but inaccuracies in collocation and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve your lexical score, you should expand your range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to word formation and pluralisation, and carefully check your spelling before finishing your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors are present, including issues with subject-verb agreement ("peoples have firm believed"), missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and poor punctuation, as seen in run-on sentences like "when someone get back to their home after heavy work starting the television ans see the movie full of entertainment and fun it reduce their stress...". These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, you need to practice forming accurate complex sentences using subordinate clauses, improve your control over verb forms and tenses, and ensure correct punctuation and capitalization.
