Student answer (Band 6.5)
Various opinions exist on fictional violence on television. One section of society thinks that it is just for entertainment, whereas the other section thinks that this leads to violent behaviour. I am of the latter view and believe that television shows have the potential to change someone's perception.
The former view sheds light on the harmless and fun nature of fictional violence on television. The violence portrayed in the television shows is a part of the story and doesn't relate to the real world. These shows are developed with the sole purpose of business and ratings. For example, violence against the poor in television shows is the demand of the story. Consequently, audiences watch these shows to pass their free time.
On the contary, the latter view suggests that fictional violence is responsible for violent behaviour. The television shows are a depiction of the society. The audiences consuming these shows believe that such violence is normal. For instance, violence shown against the elderly could be accepted by the people. As a result, they would indulge in the same actions against their elder family members.
I agree completely with the latter view and believe that the fictional violence is accountable for increasing violence and crimes in the society. People learn how to react to a particular situation which they have never encountered in life through these shows. Citing an example, violence against notorious children could remain stuck with the audiences. Therefore, they would consider this as a controlling mechanism for troublesome children.
In conclusion, whether someone considers fictional violence as harmless entertainment or responsible for rising violence in the society, I firmly believe that it should not be promoted as the actions of people could get out of hands.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state your position clearly: the opening identifies the opposing perspectives, and you consistently argue that fictional violence can influence behaviour. The response also gives examples, such as viewers treating violence against elderly people as normal. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally. The harmless-entertainment paragraph mainly says violence is part of a story and serves ratings, without explaining why viewers can distinguish fiction from real life. Some examples are also unclear, particularly “violence against notorious children,” which makes the point about learning responses difficult to follow. To strengthen the response, explain the reasoning behind each view and use more precise, realistic examples to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: introduction, discussion of the first view, discussion of the opposing view, your own position, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “The former view,” “On the contrary,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Your position also remains consistent. Some linking is a little formulaic, however, and the relationship between ideas is not always fully clear. For example, “Consequently, audiences watch these shows to pass their free time” does not clearly follow from the claim about business and ratings. The examples and their consequences could be connected more explicitly. Use cohesive devices flexibly and make sure each sentence develops the point immediately before it.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “fictional violence,” “perception,” “depiction,” and “controlling mechanism.” These choices help communicate the central argument, and meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “the demand of the story,” “audiences consuming these shows,” and “get out of hands” do not sound natural in context. There is also a spelling error in “contary.” Aim for more idiomatic phrasing and precise terms when describing effects on viewers. For instance, distinguish between violence being included to advance a plot and viewers interpreting it as acceptable behaviour.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “whereas” and conditional structures such as “whether someone considers…”. Most sentences are understandable, and grammatical errors rarely obstruct the argument. Some issues remain in sentence construction and grammatical patterns. In “The audiences consuming these shows believe,” the participial phrase is awkwardly attached; a clearer structure would be “Audiences who watch these shows may believe…”. In “violence against notorious children could remain stuck with the audiences,” the sentence pattern makes the intended meaning difficult to interpret. There are also occasional article and number choices, as in “in the society.” Continue varying sentence structures, while checking that modifiers attach clearly and that articles and plural forms fit the meaning.
